Hot Chip all approach the art of spinning differently: Joe and Alexis are more party jocks - Alexis recently played his R&B and New Order favourites at Sankeys in Manchester - while Felix opts for a more melodic, minimal approach with tunes in his bag similar to the Audion remix of ‘No Fit State’. Alongside Hot Chip dj sets across both rooms they have lined up: the mysterious, enigmatic Black Devil Disco Club who recently released their first album in 28 years and whose fans include everyone from Aphex Twin to Morgan Geist and James Holden; Paris-dwelling freak-house duo Noze whose clothes often fall off at the end of their boozy live sets and whose ‘Remember Love’ is set to become an anthem; Germany’s Bodenstandig 2000 whose ‘Maxi German Rave Blast Hits 3’ on Rephlex best sums up their rave punk sound; Erol Alkan, whose haunting mix of The Chips’ ‘Boy From School’ concluded many DJs' sets last year and ghetto-pop boy wonder Sinden. NOZE Parisian duo Noze have concocted a highly addictive blend of techno, pop, house and old fashioned story telling, and the summer of 2007 is bound to be a big one for them on the back of their latest single ‘Remember Love’ (on MBF Records). This homage to Chicago grand piano house trax of the 1980s perfectly sums up their take on dance music,by turns funky, filthy, soulful and romantic. Their association with labels like Traum, Circus Company and Logistic gives them techno cred and their shows make them an unmissable spectacle. Catch them at The End to see them strip off, neck bottles of champagne and twiddle around on vintage keyboards while shouting out their brilliant sing-a-long choruses. One of Hot Chip's favourite ever bands! BODENSTANDIG 2000 Bernhard Kirsch and Dragan Espenschied are Bodenstandig, German musicians working in the realm of 8-bit technology (think of classic videogame soundtracks and things made on Gameboys). Their classic release on Aphex Twin's Rephlex label ‘Maxi German Rave Blast Hits 3’ captures their adventurous sound, pitched somewhere between euphoric rave, extreme nerdiness and punk rock. The live show is by all accounts a stormer, likely to feature multiple cheap electronic devices and extremely silly bits of singing - a Hot Chip favourite being the track ‘Ruxack 2000’. If you can get hold of the album do so by all means, it will get you pumped up for the show. BLACK DEVIL DISCO CLUB In 2004 Aphex Twin’s Rephlex label released an album by Black Devil called Disco Club, a re-issue of a long lost supposedly ‘italo disco’ classic from 1978. Given it’s absurdly ‘modern’ sound many doubted it’s authenticity, some even suggesting that it was a collaboration between Richard James and Luke Vibert. In fact Black Devil is mysterious Frenchman Bernard Fevre. Last October he released his first album in 28 years ’28 After’ another deep, dark disco masterpiece. Black Devil fans are everywhere and include Morgan Geist, Lindstrom, James Holden and of course Hot Chip! The End, 18 West Central Street, London 10pm - 7am £12 NUS / £16 Advance / £17 on the door.
