Electro can be given a bad name. With the daytime radio stations polluting our ears with their own interpretation of the sound, it's refreshing to hear acts like Simon DeLacroix, aka Toxic Avenger producing their own unique take on things. Ranked alongside such stalwarts of the scene as Justice, LCD Soundsystem, Digitalism and Simian Mobile Disco, we spoke with Simon ahead of his Chew The Fat appearance....

For those of us who haven't heard you style before, can you describe the music that you play?

i-don't-care-electro-music. Cause i never think about what i'm doing ...if it sounds good, then it's good, even if it's trance... ...well ...no ... not if it's trance !

Why do you think electro is permanently given this sleazy, trashy style?

Because electro's sleazy ! My grandmother says that electro's not music.

What's been your favourite release so far and why?

The Smiths " Meat is Murder " This is the ultimate LP. Morrissey and Marr are genious, think about it. Barbarism begins at home is fantastic, The Smiths goes disco ! And the song called " Meat is Murder "is awesome too ... begins with some cows shouting...

You've done unofficial remixes of Blur, Beastie Boys and Roger Sanchez. Are any of these likely to see the light of day?

You can find the Blur one everywhere ... but under the name of " !Trash yourself ". I play the roger sanchez and the beastie ones live, but i think that if you search, you can also find the sanchez one on some blogs. i've also done an edit of no good, by prodigy, and i preparing some remixes of french hip hops songs by artists named Booba and Sefyu.

Your stage show is quite unique, with the mask and outfit. What made you choose that?

Shyness. When i start as Toxic, i was really too shy to jump on stage ... so this was the unique way to go on stage... Things have changed now..

Are you aware of the similarity to UK Breaks duo the Lawgiverz, who play in similar attire?

Let me go on the internet and watch that ! Well, ok they play with a mask ... But mine is designed by Jean charles de Castelbajac . ah ah. This is a similarity of many electro bands ...de-humanization..

You share a namesake with the infamous Troma films character. Are you a fan of them, or is this just a happy coincidence?

I'm a fan! I'm a fan of B movies and Z movies in general. I met the Troma guys in New york few months ago and it seems like i'm the only one to have the troma authorization to use the name toxic avenger !

Are you as opposed to foreigners as most French people seem to be?

Not at all ! But i don't really feel " french " !

Finally……what special skill do you have that would surprise people?

If i told you than people would not be so surprized !
