Some people are just born lucky. Be it music, looks, intelligence, general nice personality (interesting how I've put those in that order though....), some people are blessed in a certain area to lift them above the parapet of mediocrity and into the raised tower of exceptional-ness. If that's a word. Anyways, my point is this - whilst some people may excel in one, maybe two of these areas, there are those occasional individuals whom have been smiled on, bless almost, with all boxes ticked. On that note, and ahead of the next Chew The Fat!, we chat to the man called Riton....

Unlike a lot of artists, your MySpace page doesn’t display what sort of music you play. How would you classify your sound?

I dont really have one style... but I'm playing alot of dance mania tracks,disco re-edits I've made, bits of german techno, acid and some french electro bits right now.

For those people that have never heard you before, what characteristics are found in a Riton track?

Again everythime is different... if its a remix I try to find something I like and that suits the orginal track, these days I try and keep it as simple as possible... it seems to work better on the dancefloor and i'm more inclinded to play it out, but ive just release my new lp "eine kleine nachtmusik" and its the complete opossite. Its a mixture of krautrock and electronica and is made for lying in bed or better still on the beach.

How do you feel your productions have evolved since the early days releasing on Grand Central Records?

I think I still go about making music in the same way, but now I've got more choices availible to me so it can take a little longer to decide which is the best option.

You’ve played around the world to a variety of different crowds. Are there countries and places you feel your sound goes down better than others?

In the early days it was france, then I moved slightly north in to belgium... now my favourite places to play are london and ibiza.

Who amongst your peers do your particular admire in terms of production style?

I really like soulwax, surkin, modselektor, surismo for modern dance producders.

What about other genres that you aren’t usually associated with – do you find yourself drawing inspiration from them?

Everytime I hear a piece of music I like I'm influenced by it.

What are your interests outside of the field of music?

I like the usual ways to unwind; dinner, walking in the park,cinema. I have a small but fairly rad selection of vintage sunglasses.

Beer, wine or spirit, which is your preferred drink?

All of the above.

Have you ever been arrested, and if so what for?

When i was young i got locked up for climbing on the roof of a school... they thought we were trying to rob it, but we were only getting high.
