This article is about RACK YOUR BRAINS feat. KANIO / Tom Huddart / Felipe Kastegliano / Luso @ The Gramaphone in London (UK), Fri 08 May
As definitely one of the most innovative players in the minimal / techno scene, we are proud to have Kanio aka Ed Kane playing for RYB @ The Gramaphone this Friday 8th May. Kanio smashed his way onto the minimal techno scene in late 2007 with a string of chart topping productions. He has regularly featured in the minimal & techno charts on Beatport and in little more than a year he has achieved a massive 5 top tens and a further 7 top 20's. Needless to say, this has cemented his position on the worldwide minimal and techno scenes playing everywhere from London to Brazil, from Leeds to Paris, from Bristol to Ukraine, from Birmingham to Germany and the list goes on and on...
We managed to track him down somewhere in Brazil to hear from the man himself on this exclusive interview!
Tell us whats new in the world of Kanio? Well I'm in Brazil at the moment and played to 8,000 people yesterday which was a pretty amazing experience. Other than that just the usual touring, making tunes and running the label.
You're playing at Rack Your Brains. What can we expect? Just the usual mix of house and techno kanio style.
What does London's club scene mean to you? It means a lot really. I'm part of the furniture both as a Dj and Clubber. I really miss it when I'm playing abraod a lot.
What has been your favorite club to play in and why? I think some of my happiest memories have been playing at AKA for Jaded, as I've always loved the End and being able to play there regularly before it closed will be something I'll always remember.
If you could only play one more club ever, what club would it be and what other DJs would be playing? There are too many amazing clubs but I think it would have to be somewhere like DC10 or Amnesia, but really there are too many DJ's to mention.
You've made a huge impact in the minimal / techno scene. What got you interested in dance music? I guess going to Fabric when I was about 16 and hearing people like DJ Hype and Andy C play.
What have you got coming up in the future that you might want to share with us? Well I'm looking forward to playing for Circo Loco in Birmingham and also finally getting to play in Ibiza this year.
Audiojack on Kanio: "Kanio is undoubtedly one of our favourite producers and DJs, his style is unique and Kanio productions are always one of the highlights of our DJ sets!"
Krista Yeah (Promoter of Jaded at the End, London's longest running weekly after hours event) on Kanio: "We love Kanio at Jaded. It's not just because of his knack of producing a tumbling set of banger after banger even when he's opening our afterhours and making it work somehow, it's the insouciance beyond his years with which he plays and the sense of his sheer joy and cheek which I hope he holds on to no matter how jaded he gets..."
