This article is about Lifted @ The Island in London (UK), Sat 15 Dec 2007
Well I am here with Brad Leisure & Trevor Groove, the men behind LeisureGroove.. With already releases out and coming out on record labels such as Decedent Records, Lickin Records, DEP International, Creative Records, Filtered House & 4Records. LeisureGroove (their own label) the future looks bright for this duo of funksters …
So guys .. tell us more about you .. what is the Leisure Groove Sound? What style will you be delivering on the 15th ?.. are you getting hyped for this event?Well, the LeisureGroove sound has always been on the Funky / Soulful tip, however, we have produced some really nice commercial pop and electro over the past few months. As we are signed to a few different labels, they all demand different styles of music, so we try and cater for them all. I would say though, The LeisureGroove sound has to be piano driven, uplifting house with a nice funky baseline….always gets us going… As for the 15th, we are going to keep it uplifting, vocal funky house. We will try and keep it to tunes people know too, but slip some underground bullets in-between….
What are you working on in the studio at the moment? Is there something that we should be looking out for?Hmmm, there a few, but, there are actually 2 tunes to watch out for, the fist one is a track called “Stand Up”. The track features one of our best female artists Joanne Thompson. The track itself is a nice little uplifting piano driven funky number, certainly made to get the crowed going. We have remixes “work in progress” at the moment, from Afro Medusa, Groove Invaders and Distant Sounds, so the release is going to be a biggy for us in 2008. The 2nd track is called “Lost in Transmission” and it features our best male artist Joe Killington. Joe is currently working with the likes of Rollo from Faithless, signed to Gut publishing and co-wrote the Armand Van Helden track My My My. We promo’d this track back in the summer 07 and it’s just been signed to a label called Double Shock Recordings (DSR). This is due to come out Jan 08…. Why did you start your own label rather than jumping on a label which already has distribution to the masses in place? At the moment we are still releasing tracks on other labels, we have built relationships with the label managers and sometimes it seems more logical to put tracks out through other labels. We have only had one release on our label so far, but LGR Music is a long term investment, so I suppose and LeisureGroove grows and gets bigger so will LGR Music.
Funk or Disco?? Which gets the groove on? As you haven’t asked us to only name “one”, our answer is both!! Funky & Disco is where it all comes from…
If you were not playing House music what would you be playing? Well that’s a tricky one too; we love D&B and Breaks so we would probably be DJing that for sure.
Where do you see the club scene musically go in 2008? Return of funky house? The funky electro take over? other? Well we have seen it change, and remember when Electro was just coming in, its swings and round-a-bouts with the whole music scene. We would love for Funky to come back, there is some real good funky stuff coming out at the moment, so fingers crossed, who knows..
What keeps you guys motivated to carry on in such a hard industry? Motivation is simple really. It’s the reaction we get from playing our tunes out in clubs, responses and emails from random people who hear our music…It’s the generally feedback that makes it all worth while. We have made some big achievements this year by hitting the HedKandi, MoS albums so that’s deffinatly the motivation. We will be producing house in our Zimmer fames im sure!! Worst moment when performing live?? Haha…well, we performed a track at a local nightclub which was at full capacity of about 1000 people. It was about 5 years ago, and our singer hadn’t rehearsed the track, he got absolutely smashed before he went on, and sang out of tune…..It was like one of those X-factor moments, when people stare with their mouths open, ha-ha….we look back and laugh now, but at the time we wasn’t happy. To top it off our singer had two random mates standing behind him on stage with “EMPTY” Champaign glasses trying to dance….Ahh, it was a cringe worthy moment…..
Thank you gents !! looking foward to you dropping that funky Disco vibes on the 15th !!!!!
