Shiva – 1st birthday celebrations
OK, so with a line-up this spankingly gorgeous, Shiva’s first birthday party was, by rights, always going to be one hell of a stunningly super soiree.

With the emphasis being on creating the perfect night for the clubbers with insatiable appetites for getting down, we were hungry as horses so shone our dancing shoes and tottered off to gorge and indulge ourselves at the Island – a beautiful glittering oasis, tucked away in a deep dark corner somewhere behind Strand..

Entering the venue the security staff were very, very polite and courteous – something that has long been lost on some of London’s premier venues. Obviously the focus on making the night so good doesn’t just begin and end with the promoters and DJs – all the staff are customer focused, remembering Ps and Qs and moreover, smiling at everybody.. The bar staff particularly were friendly, welcoming and eye-catching, mixing drinks with passion and such a talent that Tom Cruise (in his Cocktail days) would look severely out of his depth.. I digress..

The dancefloor was filling up very nicely upon arrival, and Scott Lummes was playing a real gorgeous uplifting set that was getting everyone in the mood for the second course, this was more apparent when Panda leapt out of nowhere and started raving to the vocals and schmoozing on down with the gorgeous girls

By now the dancefloor was packed, and looking around there were smiles aplenty, hands in the air - we even spotted a few legends - Minnie Mouse, Olive Oyl, Dorothy and Toto, Little Bo Peep, WonderWoman, Tinkerbell, Moulin Rouge dancing girls - the word of the Shiva Party seemed to have spread as far as fairytale land and they were certainly loving it..

Back on the main floor the crowd were now moving to the slick mixing skills of John Paul, who was slinging out some real party poppers, mixing and blending the tunes skilfully. Pounding beats and funky real uplifting tunes were the order of play for the main room, the atmosphere was electric.

It really was easy to see the plan come together - this night really was all about giving the clubbers with insatiable appetites some good food.. Stepping out for a smoke break we happened upon the film crew in the courtyard, capturing everybody's thoughts, ekeing out the Shiva virgins and getting some lovely feedback on the night.

Heading back into the oasis, Liam D was gracing the DJ booth - throwing down some great tunes, classics and real uplifting stuff which was great..the whole main room was rocking and looking gorgeous.. Panda was by now in the booth, showing his endless appreciation and going for it like a.. well like a Panda on the run from the zoo..

The overwhelming factor about this night was that it was one of a few that wasn't up its own rear or taking itself too seriously..There was no attitude on the dancefloor and the vibes were spot on..

Over in the electro/Dirty house room we caught about half of Muzz's set - which - true to form was dirty and I mean not just dirty, I mean absolutely filthydirty.. blowing us all away with his animated mixing and dancing in the booth, really pleasing the crowd.. of course before too long the electro room became too hot to bear and more drinks were the order of service for now..

Back in the main room Nick Hudson was at the control enthralling us with banging dirty anthems - the most memorable Josh Wink's 'Higher state' - always a winner. By now everyone was wringing out the last hour, going for it like the world was about to end.. Great tunes from a great guy

This truly was the dessert of the night, the balcony was still pumping and everywhere the smiling continued.. We sloped off, our appetites satisfied, we had indulged ourselves something silly on the tunes and atmosphere - planning when to return again..

The thesis of Shiva is plain and simple; and the guys (and girls!) pulled out all the stops to make it a truly unique night. For a long time London hasn't seen a brand that embodies everything that is FUN in clubland, a brand that is zero tolerant of attitude. Shiva feels almost family-like - as you walk through the club people smile at everybody and are really friendly.. This adds to the allure and I for one was certainly pulled in by it.

Well done to all the Shiva crew, a very happy first birthday - and many more to come...
