Who is Herve?

This article is about Platform 12 feat. Hervé @ The Key in London (UK), Sat 10 Nov 2007

HERVÉ

Joshua “Hervé” Harvey is a 27 year-old producer from Essex who has been involved in music since the age of 9 when he received his first drum lesson. Recently he has been responsible for the freshest dance music being released right now – albeit under numerous aliases! He is on a mission to inject fun back into club music –his range of influences (from rock, rave, Baile funk, UK Garage) is wider than most and this is what is exciting dance floors and music lovers across the world.

In his early to mid teens he began to discover dance music and started building his own home studio and bought himself some Technics 1210’s and began to teach himself how to make music that he could be proud of. After 3 years in a band Joshua broke out on his own and began developing his own material and sound. At around this time he went to university to study and set up his own electro/electronic label Tomorrow Records so he could begin to get his music out there and to help him pay the bills! Although successful Joshua became increasingly frustrated with the scene and eventually folded the label around the time he left university to find something fresh.

The second chapter in his career really kicked off after meeting Dave ‘Switch’ Taylor via an old school friend 2 years ago they bonded over their Essex backgrounds and a shared desire to attempt to get dance music exciting again. Dave immediately saw massive potential in Joshua’s music and released the first Hervé EP on his Dubsided label. At about the same time Speaker Junk Records was formed by Joshua and Trevor Loveys, this spawned the massive double a-sider “Scratch Up The Music” / “Run The Track” as well as another moniker for Josh - Voodoo Chilli. It was this alter ego that was responsible for “Look What You Have Done To Me” a track which made such an impact on Erol Alkan he surprised Josh by delivering his own version of the track!! Dave was so impressed he signed all the tracks and both artists to Dubsided exclusively.

Soon Josh was teaming up with Sinden as the Count Of Monte Cristal and began, firstly on his own, with the “Ghetto Bitches” EP, then with Sinden on the “Beeper” EP…. creating a bone fide club classic.

Currently Hervé is working on a new Speaker Junk EP, The Count Of Monte Cristal and Sinden album as well as an album for his new live project Dead Soul Brothers…. Oh and he has also been rather busy remixing for the likes of The Chemical Brothers, New Young Pony Club, Roisin Murphy, Unklejam and The Elektrons amongst others!

Hervé is on his way to becoming a generation defining producer!
