Clive Morley's last Platform 12 @ The key
So after 4 years in charge at Platform 12, and from humble beginnings at Sub-Logic to The key & Canvas via The Rhythm Factory, Brixton Academy and The Silver Sturgeon, it was my last ever Platform 12... (well proper one anyway, I'm having a leaving party @ The White House on the 14th December under the Platform 12 events banner but it's not the same)

Anyway, after being about as excited as one can get without actually wetting one's self, it was 10pm, the club was open. It looked great too with all the Snowbombing stuff up and I was really looking forward to the night getting going.

Previously, I had been at the pre party @ The Driver. Euan and Spencer had played some really cool records and everyone was getting in the mood. That was 2 hours ago though (fuck knows what carnage they were creating over there now) - I had to settle for a big mac on the way to the club and help get everything into place - including my little sign - which I'll come back to later.

10pm turned into 11.30pm and the club was slowly filling up. Fava Faaade had the upstairs crowd in the palm of his hand while Bass Kleph went on in the main room. Bass kleph is a tremendous talent. Cutting and scratching his way through breaks and electro rockers, I couldn't tell whether it was just one really good record or 17 bits of different tracks all seamlessly blended together. It was fat though and even though the club was taking it's time filling up, the dancefl0or was packed and rocking (and it was only midnight).

Reveal (Julian - new Platform 12 ressie) had taken over upstairs and probably played the set of his life. Everyone went bananas - who said breaks were dead? Oh, I did - ooops.

At this point, 1am or so, I was just about to jump on but got distracted by what was such a great turn-out of so many Platform 12 regulars. It was so nice to have so many folk come up and wish me well and they were there to support my last set. That was awesome.

..and funnily enough, and probably due to that, i was really nervous too (I'm not normally). That combined with a glitchy handover from Bass Kleph meant I properly trainwrecked my first mix but after that, it was all good. And I have to say, thank you so much for the best possible reception - that meant a lot. I held up a sign saying ‘thanks for the last 4 years, yo’ during the breakdown of a little born-slippy /Stanton’s bootleg I had put together earlier that day.

It was great to play a mixture of old and new records, in the same way there was a mix of old and new Platform 12 faces... but f**cking hell you all still rock just as hard.

I left pretty much left after my set but Herve I heard was awesome and I'm sure Leo, kit & Euan would've had the place rocking until 6am. I did catch some of 2 phunked up's set and thought they are definitely a duo to watch out for. Cheers guys.

So, all in all, that was one of the best ones this year. Thanks a million. Fond memories.

Clive xx
