Meet "DISCO3001 vs CITYBEATS" latest DJ recruits: Jnr J, Sam Bailey, Soothsayer & Randy Quan!!

So, with our final "DISCO3001 vs CITYBEATS" coming up at The Key on Friday 23rd... we thought you'd like to know a little bit more about the DJs playing in our room and their views on losing one of London's best underground clubs - The KEY!!

Introducing - JNR J

For anyone who's never been clubbing in London before and has somehoe never heard of you, please introduce yourself...

Yo I'm Jnr J...is that the Vodka and Vodka I ordered? hahaha ;)

Best gig of the year so far?

I done a gig in Barcelona at a club called City Hall...I cant remember the name of the event (probably due to the Vodka and Vodkas) but it was put on by the Penetra Ibiza guys. Was a fantastic gig and in the end security had to remove us from the stage because peeps refused to go home hahaha =) But I'm in Shanghai at the moment waiting to do a club called Bonbon so hopefully that will be fantastic too. In London my Jnr's Jamm events have been among my best gigs this year.

I used to be into the old 4 2 Da Floor Garage just like you back in the day... So I want to know what are you're top 3 garage tunes ever? and have you ever considered dropping them in recent times?

Dude...we dont talk about the Garage Shhhhh! hahahaha... I used to love it before it got all rudeboy!! um, top 3 tracks:

Danny J Lewis - Spend The Night With You (Oh My God in searching for the name I've just realized that it's the H Man mix...thats quality if it's the same H Man)

Todd Edwards - I walk away (made me cry once, shhh)

Dj Zinc - 138 Trek (Oh How I remember doing the Shadow Demon dance to that track hahaha)

What will losing The Key and The Goods Yard mean to you?

Man!!!! I'm screwing...Losing the Goods Yard is a real bummer and the Key in my opinion is the best club there...it's so grimey yet nice if you get my meaning and the sound system is amazing and who can resist a lighted dance floor! I don't think that Kings Cross can hold on to their clubbing crown once the Goods Yard is gone. Perhaps South London will get the recognition it deserves, clubs like SE One, Ministry, Jamm, Plan B and others may benefit greatly. It's open season on London clubland!!

Introducing - SAM BAILEY (Custard Nights)

So Sam, tell everyone a little more about Custard Nights?

Im am resident dj at Custard Nights a joint collaboration between myself and fellow dj and good mate - Jamie Tunbridge. CN is very much about quality electronic music - deep, tech & minimal. We like to think we offer an alternative to the Electro House nosense you hear at the majority of club nights in London. We throw spordaic parties that draw a crowd of about 120-150 like minded party goers. Not everyone is into our sound at first but after a session of Custard Nights - end up loving it. We take the music really seriously but apart from that anything goes - at the last party we had inflatable beach balls, parrots, guitars, bananas all over the place - was a messy night. We have a very interactive website full of new mixes that are updated monthly from myself & Jamie and a number of key underground dj's across London. We also upload regular Custardcasts - hour radio shows with all the latest Custard Nights news and a selection of our fave tracks of the moment - weve been getting a serious number of hits, some ace feedback and even had some major interest from some Commercial radio stations to give us a regular show - so watch this space. The next Custard Nights party will be in early February 2008 at our new home at Fluid n Farringdon...keep an eye our website for more info: www.custardnights.co.uk or come find us on Facebook and Myspace.

What can people expect from you on the 23rd and why should they get down early for your warm-up?

On the 23rd, expect to hear some lush deep house with some tech flavours thrown in. Think Dixon, Ame, Dennis Ferrer, Justin Martin or labels such as Buzzin Fly, Objektivity, Sonar Kollektiv. Nothing too heavy, but musically rich dance music with a cool twist. I like to throw some sound effects and accapella's over to stuff to make things interesting and help hype the crowd who will be excited about a special night ahead. I have a a few records up my sleeve I have been saving for the night so cant wait to give them a spin too. DJ mag have recognised my DJ'ing skills recently and I have been inundataed with enquiries so hope to show peeps why I was voted by there staff as 'Top Pick' out of the Dj's that issue.

What will losing The Key and The Goods Yard mean to you?

Being relatively new to the London DJ circuit I cant say that the closing of The Key and other venues in The Goods Yard is an emotional issue for me - having also spent most of my clubbing days at smaller venues such as Public Life, Plastic People, Neighbourhood and The End. However, its a shame that such pivotol clubs are being closed down, but with such a vibrant Dance music scene in Lodnon there are plenty of other places to party - such as The End, The Island, MOS etc. Its going to be a major pleasure to say I dj'd at The key before its closed though...

Introducing - SOOTHSAYER

So, Where did the name Soothsayer come from?

Well, a Soothsayer is someone who tells the future - like a prophet. And my surname is Sayers... Clever, eh?! When I had just bought my decks my mates were taking the piss and making up dj names for me. I thought Soothsayer was sufficiently tongue-in-cheek, so I decided to use it! I don't think I ever actually expected to see it on a flyer though!

Who is currently doing it for you DJ and production wise?

I'm a huge fan of the Buzzin Fly stuff, so Ben Watt is always high on my list. I love Justin Martin's work, and his new mix, Choas Restored, has been in my cd player almost constantly for the last couple of weeks.

I'm also quite into vocal, soulful stuff, so I've been rinsing Karizma's mix from the latest Soul Heaven album... The man has thrown a bit of everything on that record - Love it!

In terms of who I make an effort to go see around London, I can't get enough of Raymundo Rodriguez' Jaded sets. Just how I like it: Nice and deep but with loads of soul - There's never a dull moment.

For this event we've teamed you up in a special b2b set with regular DISCO3001 and CITYEBATS DJ, Randy Quan... Are you looking forward to it?

Definately! After listening to Randy's stuff, I know we both have similar tastes. I also really enjoyed his set at The Island on 10 Nov, so I am really looking forward to having a mix with him.

What will losing The Key and The Goods Yard mean to you?

Er... More sleep?!?

I have always been a big fan of The Cross, even if it is too warm, annoyingly laid out and gives me bad tinnitus. The Key will always have a special place in my heart though... I've had so many good nights/mornings there. Sunday mornings up on the roof terrace, it's rammed with people, 29 degrees, planes are lumbering over the London sykline, I'm a little sunburnt, and that hollow sound of outdoor music... Bliss!

Finally Introducing - RANDY QUAN

So, what's your name and where are you from?

Hey folks, I'm Randy Quan, I hail from the great white north of Toronto, Canada. And yes that's my real name. Like they say Randy by name Randy by nature.

Who were early infuences in music and who is doing it for you right now (at home or in the clubs)?

I guess it depends how early you want! The first record I ever bought was in 1986 when RUN DMC came out with Raising Hell, I musta played that thing a million times. Still love it to this day. When I was a teenager I was a total grunge kid (what's shampoo?), I can totally see why today I love the energy and the pace Dubfire adds to a lot of his songs.

You have already played numerous events for CITYBEATS and DISCO3001, what can people expect for your set this time (especially as we've teamed you up with Soothsayer)?

I'm totally looking forward to doing a B2B set with Soothsayer! People should expect a high tempo set with tracks that really drive. I just love songs that thump so hard you can feel it in your chest! I've never done a B2B set before so it'll be fun to add someone else's musical taste alongside mine.

What will losing The Key and The Goods Yard mean to you?

Losing The Goods Yard will devestate one of the biggest advantages I had over 95% of the clubbers that go every weeknd, I actually live in King's Cross, so no more walking home! Seriously though, losing The Cross, Canvas, and Key will be difficult since its our own little "entertainment district" for clubbers. The Key was the first club I ever went to when I first visited The Goods Yard, and has a special place in my heart since its been the catalyst for my DJing oddysey. Do you think Tiger Tiger will allow me to play one of my Techno sets in the new year?

Thanks guys... I look forward to seeing you all play at The Key on the 23rd then!!
