With DIVERTED's 1st Birthday at The Key only days away, we chat to the main room DJs!!

1 - What do DIVERTED's parties mean to you?

Henry - Diverted parties are special as they mark a return to the proper party attitude. The unpretentious and open minded crowd love to have it and I love to play to party crowds!

Paul - Diverted Parties are a platform for me to play the music i want with the full support of my promoter to a crowd who love it. What more would you want?

Roo - Friendly people, quality music, basically good non pretentious fun!

Stu - Diverted Parties for me mean FUN and a chance to play a night that still has the feel of the nights that inspired me to start DJing. The music may have moved on but atmosphere still feels the same at a Diverted Party.

Also there no clickyness about the music , both rooms have different sounds but actually back each other up. The last party at the Key showed that, with people moving about from one room to other but enjoying both.

Jim - Diverted parties are something that has been missing for the last year or so. Since electro came in, funky house has sort of faded away, but with the Diverted parties we get the chance to put funky back on the map.

2 - You have all played together before, is there any fighting over set times?

Roo - Yep, last time I kicked the shit out of Jim because he wanted to go on before me.

Stu - Na its always been pretty easy on the set times.... what I say goes ;0) Actually we tend to find it pretty east to sort it out. There’s been no fights yet :0)

Paul - Yes of course, that’s why i am put on warm up, because i am weak.

Henry - I'm fairly relaxed when it comes to set times as I buy a range of house music. If I play warm up, as I am on Friday with Paul B, I get the chance to play some of the more relaxed uplifting music that is best suited for that time. I truly enjoy warm up as you get the chance to set the tone of the night and if you do it well it should mean the rest of the night flows well.

Jim - No not all. Personally I love doing any of the set times, warm up sets to the main sets. It keeps everything interesting.

3 - In this whole funky, vocal, electro house world... who is the dirtiest DJ out of all of you?

Stu - I would say Jim (lets face it he’s the closet to the ground so the dirt has less to travel ;0) ) but I feel that anyone of us could play any set of the night without any problems in our room.

Roo - Probably Jim… He hasn't had a good bath in weeks, he he. I'll leave my fave northern fella alone now. To be honest I've never played "dirty House", I simply play House music in all it's many forms.

Henry - It's difficult to say who is the dirtiest as we all have pretty grubby moments. Having said that, I think Jim probably has the most naturally dirty sound.

Paul - Jim is the dirtiest

Jim - Hmmm that is a good question, I would like to think me but if I'm honest I'm going to say Paul B, that boy smells!!!

4 - Apart from Diverted events, what is the best club or event you have played at?

Jim - Throb and Hat Club have to be my fav’s.

Henry - That's a tricky one as I have so many good memories of DJing...Serious at the Cross was always very close to my heart. The first Hat-Club I played at was pretty special too. It had that excitement in the air. It's hard to put into words but you could just feel the buzz in the air from everyone on the floor. Playing at Bora Bora in Ibiza was also pretty special! One particular Dusted party at Pacha sticks in my mind too as I remember the whole main room just erupting as one...a pure hedonistic clubbing moment!

Paul - Formula @ Pacha & Dusted @ Canvas were both whoppers!

Roo - To be honest Hat Club at the Cross last Saturday was a massive highlight of the year for me, and the Renaissance nights are always spot on.

Stu - I have 2 that really stick in my mind for different reasons. A few years ago I was asked to played @ the Regent Street festival. I had not been playing in London very long and it was around the time we had just started to get Formula off the ground.. I had been asked to play on one of the back stages and basically fill in between the acts. My sets went really well and it was the first time I got a real buss from starting with a empty dance floor or (street in this case) and leaving it full with people dancing and have a great time.

The other sets that stand out for me was the year that Paul B and I started playing back to back on a Sunday Morning @ Formulate. It was a really hot summer and club was always rammed. Paul and I often got put on from about 10 onwards and found that we would see the same faces week in week out having in that dark room. It always felt like such a tem effort. Between us and the crowd. But the one moment that really stood out over that summer was the morning that there was a massive group hug on the last track at the end of the morning in that bottom room. It will be the one memory that will stay with me forever.

5 - What does the Kings Cross Yard mean to you and will you miss The Key?

Henry - The Kings Cross Yard IS London clubbing to me! I've spent so much time in the clubs there over the years. The Cross is my favourite venue in London and the Key is one of my favourite places to play. Canvas (or Bagleys as it will always be to me!) is one of the first places I went clubbing when I came to London. To lose the entire area is going to be really odd...I can't quite believe it's happening...but as they say, "All good things come to an end".

Paul - I always look back fondly over 'the formulate season'; those messy Sunday mornings introduced me to some fantastic people and talented DJs playing great music. The flashing dancefloor and huge sound system made the Key my favourite club in London. It will be missed!

Roo - It hasn't really sunk in to be honest, I've been going there since the Cross first opened it's doors and I was raving hard at Bagleys back when I was a young scamp, then there's the flashing dancefloor and phat sound system at Key, totally gutted pretty much sums it up, we're losing three of the best venues in London. :-(

Stu - The Goods Yard is clubbing in London for me full stop. Its were it all started for me and were I was inspired to become a DJ. I know its all going but it will be sadly missed in my eyes as for me it was the home of London House Music and the Key still remains my Fav Club to DJ and party in!

Jim - The place really means a lot to me, so many memories. When I first moved down to London I started clubbing at Serious which was at the Cross. So many amazing nights there and I got to meet so many amazing people who I still very close to me to this day. The Key will always be one of my fav Clubs in the UK. The sound system is AWESOME and the lay out with the flashing dance floor just makes the club work so well. Again I've meet some amazing friends from clubbing there, I'm going to miss them sooo much!!

6 - What can people expect from you on the night?

Roo - Quality House music with a few cheeky surprises.

Stu - On the night expect music to make you jump around… I know I will be :0)

I reckon a load of driving Electro House with some vocals on the side, maybe a few old ones too, since I reckon it will be the last time I get to play at the key ;0)

Jim - Not quite sure yet as the set times haven't been confirmed. But if I'm on last expect some dirty vocals followed by some classic's which I heard through the years of clubbing at the Key.

Henry - At the Key people can expect to hear uplifting, musical house that will inspire you and make you wanna dance! Expect me to be jumping around and generally having fun.

Paul - On the night I’m finally teaming up with longstanding buddy Henry Burrows for a b2b opening set which I am very much looking forward to. We'll be playing our usual uplifting funky style, and if the place isn't jumping by the time we've finished I will eat Jims hat!
