Seven floors up & boasting floor-to-ceiling windows, the restaurant at The Penthouse feels like a grown-up, clubby affair (unsurprising, considering it's sandwiched between a members’ bar & an exclusive nightclub). The spacious dining room is decked in warm shades of red, though it's the views over Westminster that are the real eye-catcher. Food, meanwhile, is Pan-Asian & a rather hit-&-miss affair. From the succinct menu, Thai beef salad was slighty overwhelmed by the strong flavours of red onion & lemongrass, though it was generously speckled with shiitake mushrooms & hefty slivers of cucumber and mango. King prawns marinated in tamarind, chili & garlic were the highlight of our meal: tender, flavoursome & served attractively skewered on a stick of lemongrass over a bed of soba noodles. Chilli margarita sorbet to finish was fresh & feisty, being heavily loaded with tequila, though the real finale were the fab Asian-inspired cocktails from the bar – the Graceful Orchid, in particular, was a delight (raspberry, vodka, lychee, crushed lavender & orange).
