Universal Vibes is back on the second saturday of the month at The Prince, right in the heart of Brixton, on the Junction of Coldharbour Lane and Brixton Road for another Freestyle Blend Session.
The Prince is part of the fantastic new Dex Club complex, one of the leading lights in the thriving current Brixton nightlife scene. Don't let its pub-like exterior fool you. Inside beats the heart of a chunky function one soundsystem with a great dancefloor area an outdoor terrace that makes the Prince feel more like a mini club than a bar. We started this session back in November, and over the last few months its grown into a fantastic monthly session....
Taking its name from one of the in house radio shows on universal vibes, representing the eclectic deep freestyle sounds, taking in a mix of soulful beats and breaks, expect hip hop, broken beats, deep house, nu jazz and latin flavours, music without boundaries...music with universal vibes
From House (proper and deep) to Hip Hop (chunky and soulful), with a dash of broken beats, some disco, funk, soul and a whole pile of eclectic good grooves...
This month we are handing over the controls to Jafar, who will be taking over and spinning all night long.
An up and coming name on the London house scene (although no newcomer after earning his stripes as one of the founding residents of Mulletover alongside Geddes). As co-owner of both Artizan Music and previous imprint Kwaito Recordings with production partner Andy Touchfingers, Jafar first hit the club radars in 1994 opening for Carl Cox and Billy Nasty at 'Universe' seminal Friday nighter 'Final Frontier', at the now defunct, yet legendary, ClubUK.
Jafar is currently riding high after starting a new electronic house live outfit, 'Poussez' (tracks to come on universal vibes in 2008) and on this night will be diving into his influences and dropping an eclectic set, as well as some of the delicious deep and soulful house flavours he is known for..
after rocking the Prince with a couple of guest appearances for us over the last few months we couldn't think of a better person to look after the fort for us in August...so bring you dancing shoes and an open mind for the freestyle blend...
