1. We’ve just managed to catch you before you go out for your second session in Ibiza this summer. So tell all, what have you been up to this year?I was out in Ibiza a few weeks ago to play for Garlands vs. kiss the funk at Eden, which was absolutely awesome. They organised a boat party at the last minute, which was amazing. Definately a highlight of the year! We sailed out as the sun went down and there was a wicked crowd onboard, everyone was well up for it! It got pretty messy though. After that I had a warm up set in the main room of Eden, and then a Classics set in the back room. All in all a wicked day, and one to remember. It’s good to be so involved with such a well-known night in Ibiza.
2. What does a typical day consist of for you in Ibiza?Well, if its not a Monday or Tuesday I usually just chill out at Kanya or Coastline, or hit a beach. Every Monday I’m in Ibiza you´ll find me in DC10, and every Tuesday at BoraBora - my two favourite places in the world. Lets also not forget Sundays at Space! However, I also like to eat out in Ibiza town or Kazbah.
3. What’s your favourite night on the white isle?Circo Loco @ DC10 is my favourite night or should I say day? You have to experience it to believe it - there’s no other place like it! I try not to miss one when I’m there. Made in Italy is another amazing night at Amnesia, which is getting more and more popular this year.
4. In your opinion what are this years Ibiza scorching tracks?Well it’s hard to ignore the Eric Prydz mix or Call On Me. It’s definately to best mix out of all of them. There have been several bootlegs, however, this mix stands out - its a massive track you´ll be hearing all summer long!
Also Deep Dish’s - Flashdance is absolutely wicked. It’s got an unmistakeable guitar riff that everyone goes mental to! There’s also a new Skylark mix, which is due soon.
Spektrum - Kinda New (Tiefschwarz mix) is another rude track that I have hearing everywhere. It’s a proper dirty electric track that rips up any dance floor.
Max Linen’s - Flashback also sticks in my head - the reaction that I get to this tune is awesome.
5. You get back from Ibiza on the 28th and its looks like you’ll be pretty busy from then on. What does the bank holiday weekend have in store for you?On the Saturday night I playing at Up! It’s one of my residencies in London. It’s been a while since the last one so I’m, really looking forward to it. Then, on the bank holiday Sunday, I’ve got Wildchild followed by Gatecrasher, which are two of the best nights that I play at. Bank holidays always turnout to be something special. I hope I’ve got enough energy to power it through upon returning the UK following my shenanigans in Ibiza!!
6. What can we expect from your turntable skills at the next up?At the last two Ups, I’ve been on resident duty and have therefore been doing a warm up set. This time however, I have the pleasure of the main set which I’m really looking forward to. This gives me a chance to actually play some of my biggest tunes that I don’t always get to do. Lets put it this way... it’ll be something a bit special.
7. You have also been grafting away in the Nukleuz studio, any news for us because we are definitely keen on hearing the results?I have been working on a few tracks since I signed to the Nukleuz house agency "Beautiful". A few of them are work in progress, however, I’ve just finished a mix of a big summer track Mohito - Slip Away. I’m really pleased with the results and it should be getting a release on the UMM label.
8. How would you describe your current sound?I don’t like to pigeon hole my sound. One of my greatest strengths is my diversity. I play all forms of house music - anything from dirty electro - tinged house to the tougher drum driven tribal beats. However, there’s nothing like a bit of funk and a massive vocal to bring the house down. Anything goes, depending on where and when I am playing.
9. Who do you idolise in terms of technical ability?James Zabeila is definitely top of the list... if you don’t know what I mean you have to watch his new "Alive" DVD/CD. The guy is ridiculous - he has no boundaries and has taken things to the absolute limit. Steve Lawler is also a master technically, and one of my favourite DJs. I also like a good scratch and Eddie Haliwell and Illogic are two of the best.
10. Where would you like to see yourself play by 2005?I would definitely like to start playing at more nights where I am in the main room. There are a few big nights in London that I would love to play at such as Puschca, Pukka Up and Kinky Malinky. I would also like to feature more frequently at Garlands and Good Greef. I haven’t played at a festival yet either, so that’s definitely an aim of mine. Also, some gigs in different countries would be a dream-come-true.
11. What the best thing about being Filthy Rich?I guess it’s just that I get to do what I love doing, and get a reaction from my audience. But I can tell you the worst thing about being filthy Rich...and that’s not being filthy rich.
