Dj Concept, DirtyLittleFunker and Rustic Groove all great DJ’s and they all made it thru to the final being played on the 23rd September. John Kirven also made it through in the wild card playoff against Roland London.

HotBox Wild Card Interview with DJ’s John Kirven and RolandLondon

Interview with Heat 1 HotBox Winners Little Jo, Amy Taylor and Andy Boph

Well with the 1st heat over and only another 2 to go, we have the 1st 3 finalists come thru. I must just say that the competition was very close, there were some excellent DJ skills, and tune tonnage coming thru too. I think all the DJ’s that took part really enjoyed it we speak to the 3 winners to find out a little more about them and how they feel about the completion so far…

Info

Music : House

This is a daytime event (e.g. starts late morning or early afternoon - see below for times).

All DJ's need to turn up at 3pm, the draw of names will then take place at 3:30pm from a hat for your set times for that day. Everything will kick off at around 4pm we encourse everyone to come down early in order not to miss your DJ. The competition will carry on till 11pm where the winners will be announced. The venue will be open till 1:30am. If DJ's are not there at 3:30pm for the draw, your slot will be forfeited - DJ's turning up late will not be given another chance to play. If for any reason scheduled DJ's don't turn up, the length of your set will be increased, initially set times are only 30mins so you need to plan this very carefully you may get an extra couple of minutes to play and extra song or 2 depending. So each DJ gets around 30mins in the HOTBOX, playing tunes that are HOT in your BOX.

You will play in front of a panel of judges selected by myself who are well respected within the industry and you will be scored according to technical ability, track selection and crowd response there will also be a facility set up on DSI for people that came to the event to vote for you after the event has taken place.

From this the Hottest 3 dj's will be selected to go forward to the next round where they will play the last 3 sets of the night at the following heat, so they will get another chance to feature in the HOTBOX. The next Heat will be held on the bank holiday Sunday the 26th August. The top 3 DJs will also automatically go through to the final play off where the winners from all 3 rounds will play alongside with 3 wild cards chosen through voting.

There are 15 dj's playing in the 1st round. It would be good if you everyone entered could get down to all the events even if you are not scheduled to play that day as it will be good for you to see what you are up against. We have representation from record labels, DJ agencies, media (Mixmag, DJ mag and dontstayin.com) as well as club owners and promoters. So it will be a good chance for you to network, meet other DJ's and promoters and potentially get bookings off the back of this competition. So bring demos down to distribute accordingly.

The venue has a great new roof terrace which has proved, summer on summer, to be the place to be. Think of it as an Ibiza in London. You will be playing on state of the art equipment 2 x Pioneer CDJ 1000's, 2 x 1210 Turntables, and Pioneer mixer, on the newly fitted £30k turbo sound system. We will occupy the whole of the upstairs of the venue including the roof terrace which is perfect for afternoon cocktails and lapping up the summer sun, be sure to bring your shades! The final will take place on the 23rd September over the whole club, upstairs and down stairs where you stand the chance to be crowned King / Queen of the HOTBOX.

Don't Stay In mix of the week
