We catch up with Sugarshaker before the HotBox Semi Final this Sunday!

This article is about HotBox Semi Final @ The White House (London) in London (UK), Sun 07 Oct 2007

The competition so far has been incredibly hot, but the last and final Heat looks to be the hottest! Email inthehotbox@gmail.com for concession entry. Click the link for more details!

Sugarshaker :

Well its seems you have been creating quite a stir with your sets and grabbing the attention of the mighty Toolroom Records with your productions. Also you have only been DJing for 2 years, and in that time you have warmed up for the Radio 1 legend that is Pete Tong as well as Fergie. That is quite a feet for a DJ that’s not been around that long?

Well I suppose you could say I have been very spoilt - I have quite a few friends in the industry who are DJ’s and/or promoters, so I may have had a little head start. Don’t get me wrong mind - I have worked hard for the opportunities I’ve been lucky enough to have and I never take it lightly - first and most important is that the crowd enjoy the music plus I’m very committed to the cause! I love this job and I really want to be successful - I’m aiming for the top, so every time I play anywhere I want to leave a lasting impression and I would rather it be a good one than a bad one!
Good female Dj’s are few and far between these days. For me a female DJ will always be better than a male as for some reason they put more emotion into their sets. You are one of 3 girls in the competition, 2 of them (Amy Taylor and Little Jo) are also already thru to the semi final round … wouldn’t it be nice if we could make that 3 girls in the final?

Oh my god, that would be amazing - although I think the guys may have something to say about that! Lol
Of course, as much as I would love to be in the final, I have to say that I already feel very lucky and proud just having the opportunity to play in the competition, getting through to the semi’s and in such a cool place - how exciting! I hope everyone enjoys my set more than anything!

You are currently resident for Housework (voted as best house nite in the SW - DJ Mag) and you have played for many promotions across the UK from London, to Northampton and even Bristol. Breed Management currently look after your bookings and I have heard it been said that there hasn’t been a promoter that’s listened to your demo that hasn’t booked you! How true is that?

Is that right? Cool - I didn’t realise that!…..to be fair though, I haven’t actually given out that many demo’s full stop, it’s difficult finding time!! I know I am very lucky to have Breed and to also have 2 residencies, the one at Housework and one in Chamonix, where I also play once a month. They give me the platform I need to get noticed - which is so difficult in this industry where there are so many talented and experienced DJ’s.

I’m counting the number of sleeps between now and Sunday…..I can’t wait!

Thanks for your time we are certainly looking forward to seeing and hearing you at the next and 1st HotBox semi final .

To catch Sugarshaker and the 5 other semi finalists who are all extremely good DJ’s the other DJ’s in the lineup includes Rustic Groove, Andy Boph, Amy Taylor, Dirty Little Funcker and Jay Ardee as well as the Wildcard playoff between Si Mac and Aaron le Doubles.

Be sure you make it down nice and early on Sunday the 23rd September, everything kicks off at 4pm, come and support your DJ, and be sure not miss any of the HotBox action!

HotBox the only way to enjoy your Sunday!
