Cagedbaby Interview

As NEW YEARS EVE approaches we've managed to catch up with Cagedbaby inbetween flights to get some info on one of the hottest DJ's/Producer's of the present day.

Where did the name Cagedbaby come from?

Aha the classic question, I guess I should have picked a more sensible name. , it’s something to do with born into a world in which you little or no control, that and it was my 'CB' radio call sign when I was a skipper on a yacht.

What have been your influences?

I love exploring music, I have too many influences to pin it down, but I do get a lot of inspiration from 80's film soundtracks, I love live music, bands like LCD Sound System, but I guess i started as keyboard player so i like a lot of 80s synth nonsense, prog rock and psychedelic, Early bowie, Talking heads, human league, the list in endless there’s so much great music out there.

You've played to a massive cross section of clubbers and festival goers from Ibiza's Space to the dance stages of Glastonbury and Bestival to name a few. Any highlights? Favourite gigs?

Difficult to choose a favourite, this question makes me scan thorough my mind at all the great parties I’ve been lucky enough to play at, Fuji rock festival in Japan was amazing, Touring with Fatboy Slim all over Japan, Touring with the Chemical Brothers, Womb in Japan is probably the best club in the world, I was lucky enough to play there in September The space terrace in Ibiza on Sunday evenings in the summer. Glastonbury Trash City was probably my favourite gig of this year, never could you get more of a twisted Session than that!!! RIP

Remixes... A well accomplished remixer, you've re-edited some massive tracks for the dance floors across the world. Whose your favourite artist to remix and any remixes coming soon?

This week I've done a remix for Xpress 2, very good friends of mine, for skint records, LDN Xpress. I’ve used freight train sounds on it and it works really well out. Also this week a Remix for Grace Jones for her next single, love you to life, its great fun you get to express yourself in a carefree way without being too precious.

Finally your playing the midnight set on New Years Eve at the White House's Decades of Dance night. What can people expect from your set?

I've already started compiling the set, I always do a special countdown for NYE, with enough white noise whistles and bangs to blow anyone’s socks off. Expect a massive happy party and some serious classics.. I cant wait. !
