Interview with Lizzie Curious, ahead of Juicy London this Friday!!!

Lizzie’s talent for DJing is matched by her stunning vocals and songwriting skills: she sings, writes and produces her own material all in her own studio to consistent rave reviews. Her beautiful, versatile stunning voice, coupled with her talent for penning catchy, original lyrics has seen her work with top DJs from around the world including Robbie Rivera (the vocal “Star Quality” features as the title track on the album released on Juicy Music), Nino Anthony (Speaker Freaker on Portamento) and Tim Davison (SU242 Baroque Records). Recording her own vocals in the Curious Studios, she receives support from Roger Sanchez, Stonebridge, Robbie Rivera, Big Al (KISS FM), Vicky Devine, Edn Rox, The Signal Drivers, Leisuregroove, ATFC, Anil Chawla and Mark Wilkinson to name a few. Catch Lizzie at The White House this Friday 3rd July For Robbie Rivera’s Juicy London event, where she will be taking her ‘Curiousity Club’ to the upstairs room.

Hi Lizzie Curious! Please give a little introduction about yourself for those not so familiar with you.

Hey there! I am a DJ (playing roof-raising house music), a singer/songwriter (working with artists such as Robbie Rivera, Dinka & Richard Dinsdale), a producer and I also promote my own night The Curiousity Club. I'd say I'm best known for grinning like the Cheshire Cat behind the decks and having an endless supply of energy during my sets!

As head honcho of The Curiousity Club, can you tell us the main ethos behind it and what a standard Curiousity club night would entail?

The idea behind The Curiousity Club (spelt like this to incorporate my DJ Curious name into the name of the night( is to fuse filthy, roof-raising house music with a Burlesque theme - the guys and girls both really get into the dressing up! I'm a real stickler for musical progression in a night, so we tend to start with some head-nodding house music that has a really good groove to it and then build it up to some really filthy, bass-driven house music and a few remixes of anthems thrown in for that extra hands-in-the--air-factor. The night is all about providing an escape from day to day life and the whole event is themed, we have special stunning Burlesque entertainers who also mingle with the crowd, handing out themed freebies such as fans, masks, delicious kitch sweets, goodie bags and more.

You are hosting a room when the mighty Robbie Rivera comes to The White House on July 3rd for a special Juicy London party. Are you excited? What can partygoers expect from your room and the main man himself?

I can't express just how excited I am to be hosting a room at what stands to be one of the most exciting clubnights in London of the summer. Robbie Rivera's stage presence, tune selection and technical ability are truly world class, he creates a fantastic atmosphere whilst he is on the decks. His Juicy Beach parties at the Miami Winter Music Conference are legendary, not to mention the amazing parties in Ibiza! He is really looking forward to playing in London again and specifically wanted to play an extended set to mark the occasion of the first ever Juicy London. Upstairs in the Curiousity Club room you can expect Curious style filthy roof-raising atmosphere, Burlesque entertainment, freebies and a fantastic atmosphere!

You have just finished vocals for some of Robbie Rivera’s tracks for his forthcoming album, what’s he like personally & creatively to work with?

Robbie is incredibly talented and inspiring, its a pleasure to work with someone so enthusiastic, motivated and passionate about music. His Juicy brand is so well known world-wide, its an honour to be part of the Juicy team!

You write, sing and produce all of your own songs, and last year reached the semi-finals of the prestigious UK Songwriting contest. Which part of the process do you enjoy the most? Where do you get your inspirations from when in the studio?

This is a bit of a cop-out but I really love the whole process! When the song is finished and it really flows then I am particularly happy! I get my inspiration from things I see and experience every day. I also have many books of lyrics that I have kept over the years that I often refer to as well.

You also did a course in Music Technology – would you recommend this type of training to someone interested in making tunes?

For me personally it was a great experience, also a challenge because I did two years condensed into one, whilst working, running a clubnight and DJing at the same time. It was a real achievement when I got my triple distinction. However I have met so many producers that are self-taught that I think it just depends on how you like to approach things. Mind you, you never stop learning in this industry!

Who would you like to collaborate with in the future and do you have any other exciting musical projects in the pipeline you can tell us about?

I have lots of exciting projects on the go...but I'm not going to be able to give away names at the moment though! I have to say I would love to collaborate with Basement Jaxx, Groove Armada and also with Ferry Corsten in the future. I'm planning to write another album when I return to the UK after the summer season in Ibiza.

What’s the craziest thing you seen from the DJ booth?

Oh goodness - so much madness and I love it so much! Probably when I had my Alice in Wonderland themed Curiousity Club - looking down to see The Mad Hatter, The White Rabbit, Alice and the Queen of Hearts having on the dancefloor was a great, crazy sight! Also on the ElectronicSessions Boat Party we all dressed up as pirates for my birthday, seeing a plethora of pirates complete with parrots, 3 cornered hats, spyglasses and cutlasses dancing away was pretty cool!

What are your top three summer party tunes?
The Rivera Project ft Lizzie Curious - Sax Heaven (Juicy)
Lizzie Curious & Jack Michaels - Broken Records (Grin)
Arno Cost - Cyan (CR2)

Any final messages for those coming down to The White House for Juicy?

I'm really looking forward to seeing you there for what promises to be a really special party - with the Juicy vibe, decor, music in the surrounds of The Whitehouse plus an extended set from the main man himself Robbie Rivera, this really promises to be an amazing party!
