This article is about SHIVA @ THE WHITE HOUSE @ The White House (London) in London (UK), Fri 15 May
The finest purveyor in uplifting house music at the moment, E-Squire is carrying the baton from where Junior Jack, Ian Carey and Raul Rincon left it. His productions have been picked up by the likes of Toolroom, Hed Kandi and Ministry of Sound and on Friday May the 15th, E-Squire makes his London debut at Shiva. Get ready for unadulterated good times.....
Where did the name E-Squire come from?
Well, my surname is Squires so I rearranged that a little bit and came up with the name! Genius, I know!
How would you describe your sound?
Funky and uplifting!!!
The scene seems to be centred very much towards the productions of tech house and electro these days, how come you've stuck with the funky/vocal house sound?
I believe people still want to hear the funky house sound, so I’m going to continue making it. I still play the odd electro track in my sets as I think they work much better later on in the set and later at night.
How did you get into house music? And what inspired you to produce/remix your first record?
I used to play house when I first started DJing and, when I used to go clubbing, I would always hear a lot of it whilst I was out. So, the bug to produce came from that point really. I used to mess around in Acid Pro; looping samples over beats and making the odd bootleg.
What's been the proudest moment in your professional life so far?
Probably getting my first remixes for Hed Kandi and also DJing in Russia was great, too.
Aside of music, what else has been your proudest moment to date?
Not so sure about that one! Maybe Liverpool winning the Champions League, although I didn’t actually achieve that!! Ha ha!!
What productions/releases have you got coming up?
I have my first Esquire track ‘Nobodies Business’ coming out on Hed Kandi in the spring as well as about four remixes I've done for them, too. I've also just remixed the new Dancing DJs track for AATW - and I think my mix may be used for the Radio Edit! I've another track I’ve done with Mike Di Scala called 'Do You Know'. Hopefully it’s going to be a big track for us. We're still sorting out a label for that one though!
What did you do for your last birthday and when was your birthday?
I was in Greece on holiday for my last birthday which is on the 1st of July.
And, how young does that make you?!?!
25. Getting old!!!
What's the weirdest thing that's ever happened to you in a club?
I fell over, quite dramatically, once in the DJ box in a club when my mate was playing. Oh. the shame!! Woke up with a very nice headache the next day!
What's the best night out you've ever had?
Probably has to be when I went to Ibiza for the first time and went to Space on the Sunday. It was truly amazing.
What's your favourite record of all time?
Old Skool wise, it's David Morales – 'Needing You' and recently, it's Axwell – 'I Found You' (Remode Mix)
What's the worst DJing gig you've ever had?
Probably when I was younger when I used to do some dodgy Wednesday nights. They were the ones that were normally dead and you’d get the local weirdos out!! Aaargh!!
What can't you live without?
Probably a computer with some music on!!
Before you were a DJ, what was the worst job you'd ever had?
Has to be when I worked in a Call Centre, cold-calling people and trying to sell car insurance. I think I sold about five policies in about nine months! Also, working for my sister’s mates' cleaning firm. I used to clean the floors in Sainsbury’s on a Sunday at six in the morning still drunk from the night before!!!
What was the last record you bought?
Last tune I bought was The Viron feat. Max C - 'Wanna Be Happy' (Thomas Gold Mix) from djdownload.com. The last album I bought was the Defected Miami 2009 CD.
If you had a time machine, where would you go and why?
Probably back to the early 90s when you could sell 10,000 vinyls and make some serious money!! Ha ha!!
What tunes have lodged themselves in your record box/CD bag and refuse to leave?
Gadgo - 'So Many Times' Eurythmics - 'Sweet Dreams' – Steve Angello Remix Herd & Fitz - 'Just Can’t Get Enough' (Raul Rincon Remix)
This is going to be your London debut, how are you feeling? Excited?
Very excited, yes!! Never been to London before as well, so looking forward to seeing what it’s like down there.
And, finally, what can we expect of you ahead of your set at The Whitehouse with Shiva?
A lot of pianos and uplifting vocals!!
Thanks, Mr E-Squire!! We can't WAIT to see you tear Shiva's dancefloors to pieces. Not long to go....
