Gabriel & Dresden Interview
Hi guys how’s life been with you? Things have been great - a bit crazy, just finished touring America for our artist album release and now we just landed in Amsterdam to kick off the European leg of the tour this summer.
You're coming to The Gallery on June 9th to promote your album launch tell us about the album and the tour? We spent the last year locked up in our studio with 2 amazing vocalists. Jan Burton from London (you might know his voice from Syntax) and Molly Bancroft, an indie rock singer from Atlanta. The album has 8 vocal tracks and 3 instrumentals (4 Jan, 4 Molly) and ended up featuring a love of live instruments and our new Minimoog. As we said before, just finished 2 months touring America, now we are hitting every corner of Europe this summer and Asia in September
And what can we expect from your set on June 9th down at The Gallery, Turnmills? Probably will be playing quite a bit of music from the new album as well as new bootlegs and some great music we have been getting from producers out there. In general our sets are probably slower and more funky/dirty than you remember.
Your tour is taking you all over the world, where do you look forward to visiting the most? Eastern Europe. Some of our best DJ gigs have been there - really looking forward to getting back there. And of course, Gallery is always our home away from home in London.
You are very well known for using lots of technology in your sets including laptops etc, talk us through what you use them for and how it all works? We use ableton live and a G4 laptop. It allows us to control as many tracks at once as we want, so we are free to play instrumental tracks with accapellas and at the same time to real-time fx processing. We are right now experimenting with new ways to use live and hardware controllers to further blur the line between live DJing and producing.
What tunes have really been doing it for you this year so far and what little gems have you heard already that you predict will be huge for the year ahead? Booka Shade have been floating our boat this year and Jet from Ellen Allien & Apperat has to be the best thing we've heard in a while.
What’s in store after the tour with the album will you be taking a well deserved break or have you got any more exciting plans? Break? Not a chance. DJ, DJ, DJ and then when we are done, get back in the studio to make more music. We are really itching to make more music.
And quickly a couple of random quick fire questions - favourite chocolate bar? Scharfenberger 92%.
Favourite piece of travelling equipment and why? SIDEKICK II (mobile phone - it has instant messenger - keeps us connected)
And finally in your search to 'track the treasure down', did you ever find it and if so what was it? It is never wise to kiss and tell.
