This article is about PARTY PROACTIVE present THE AWAKENING @ Turnmills in London (UK), Sat 24 Mar 2007
Party Proactive hits Turnmills for its 1st event of 2007 – The Awakening. This time round we have the pleasure of securing the services of top techno DJ/producer Axel Karakasis, who is jetting over all the way from Athens in Greece. Embraced by the European techno scene the UK has finally woken up to Axel Karakasis, with Party Proactive providing his UK debut at Turnmills on the 24 March.
Axel Karakasis has stepped firmly into the limelight with his inclusion at number 90 in 2006’s top 100 DJ Mag poll. A surprise to some, those uninitiated to his powerful, energy driven techno productions and a satisfying conclusion to 2006 for those who’ve lapped up each track he’s released over the past few years - a substantial achievement for one hailing from Greece, a place known more for lazy sunny days than raves.
As usual, the “over night success” was born from years of hard work. A lover of electronica since he was young, Axel was already DJing by the late 80s, developing his love of the techno sound and by the mid 90s was pushing the Greek scene by creating his own successful events in Athens. So far so good. Bookings came rolling in from across Europe, Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Switzerland and Axel took his first foray out into the world of production. Picked up by Pornographic Recordings, Marco Bailey and Cristian Varela’s label, in 2000, Axel steadily released tracks on MB Elektronics, Primate, Mb Selektions, Rhythm Convert, etc culminating in the recent creation of his own label, Omega Audio Recordings. The strength of Axel’s sound is its danceability - not for him minimal bleeps and squelches. Supported by Marco Bailey, Cristian Varela, Valentino Kanzyani, Misjah, Marco Nastic etc., his funkadelic techno has garnered fans across the board with tracks being included on compilations as diverse as Cream Ibiza, I ? Techno and Ministry of Sound – testament to the energy his music is infused with and its many musical influences. Given a recent review which variously described the track has having “absolutely killer percussion, sick tripped out, vocal influenced breakdowns and relentless, driving energy” finishing with “If this doesn’t get your crowd moving, better check their collective pulse” you’d be getting the picture. And when crafted into an ecstatic three deck mix-up, you know Axel Karakasis is most definitely turning those tables.
