The party bags have been ordered, the birthday suit is at the dry cleaners and the champagne is on ice. Why i hear you cry...? Well, drum roll please, cos the SMARTIE PARTIE crew will be celebrating 12 years of dancefloor shenanigans at Turnmills on Saturday 10th November as they present the mother of all Birthday bashes!!
SMARTIE PARTIE’s much-loved promoters Trace Harris and Claire White are from the old skool of promoting. They wear the SP brand on their sleeves and party from the heart. Their London home is of course Turnmills, and it’s here over the past 5 years or so that Smartie Partie have excelled, packing ‘em in each and every month with some of the scenes slickest spinners and the most loyal crowd in London. For the 12th Birthday, SP welcome back 3 of their current favourite DJs – Steve Smart, Marc Vedo and Lisa German.
When it comes to dance music on the airwaves – Steve Smart is one of the most important broadcasters in the UK, with 3 shows across the weekend (Friday Night Kiss, Floorfillers on Saturday nights and retrospective show Kisstory wrapping the weekend up on Sunday nights). He’s also one of the best DJs to boot and can be found gigging most weekends up and down the country… when he gets a spare moment of course!! Having made a glorious debut earlier in the year and then played another absolute stonker since, Steve’s appearance at SP’s big night was pretty much always guaranteed!! Expect bouncy beats and the hottest upfront set around. Next up is Marc Vedo, who made his SP debut at the start of the summer. As Koolwaters’ international resident DJ, the Portuguese star likes his house uplifting, tough and chunky – so perfect for the SP faithful then?!! He’s a regular on the global festival circuit including the UK’s Glastonbury, Global Gathering and Escape in the Park and has just finished another hectic summer season. If he’s hoping for a rest, he can forget it, as Smartie Partie’s birthday night is one of the most full-on events on the clubbing calendar!! Completing this hat-trick of special guests will be Lisa German, who checks in for another dose of hedonism. Like Guy, Lisa is a big fan on the polysexual scene and is a real crowd pleaser too!! Nice to get that female touch behind the decks too.
Any club night worth its hat, is nuttin’ without its residents and over at SP HQ, the gang have some of the best in Carlos Franciscoand Matty Wells. Both natural entertainers and always ahead of the game!! They’ll be joining the headline guests in the main room, alongside Chris Biscuit and promoter Trace, who’ll be showing us a few tricks on the Percussion, backed up as ever by his beautiful and exotic SP Dancers. Don’t ya just love camera phones…?!!
Elsewhere on the night there’s plenty more of the good stuff with T2 rocking out to the sounds of the good ol’ funky house classics. Huckleberry Finn, Danny Dove, Ramone, Rob White and Bruno Golias are the DJs of choice, with T3 bouncing around to all things house, courtesy of Licked & Sinsation. Over in the Cinema Lounge Jaxon & Friends keep it funky and chunky, with Connected keeping the birthday beats going up in Anexo and Like Minded People doing the same up in Topfloor. Phew!!
