Garage City are proud to present the penultimate Saturday night event at Turnmills as the soulful house crew bid a fond farewell to the old place on Saturday 15th March with an exclusive appearance by the legendary Tony Humphries. Such as an occasion demands the most mega of megastars and in Tony Humphries you have the perfect guest for their big finale. London heroes Bobby & Steve will be joining the US star to serenade the floor as they return to their much-loved home together with all the old Garage City gang for one final dance.

Garage City have a rich history at Turnmills going back to 2002 when Bobby & Steve were regularly hosting rooms at City Loud, before they went onto host their own stand alone shows. Since then, Garage City have brought us some of the biggest names in the business from Frankie Knuckles and Kenny Dope, to Todd Terry and Norman Jay. Garage City was one of the first parties in the UK to provide a platform for the world’s biggest house DJs and singers to showcase their talent, and the guys are still busy pushing their gospel beats around the world week in, week out.

Looking ahead to this very special event, Garage City welcome another bonafide legend in the shape of Tony Records head honcho Tony Humphries. This Brooklyn, New York native has entertained dance music fans across the globe with his ‘Hump in the Homefries’ brand of uptempo soul music for over 20 years. In July 1981, producer Shep Pettibone asked Tony for a mastermix show tape to fill in for a no show on his Kiss FM NYC radio show. A vacancy left by Pettibone at the station opened the door for his own permanent mix show. Simultaneously, schooled under the ‘I’ll leave you in the booth and see what happens’ antics of resident DJ Larry Patterson of NJ’s Club Zanzibar fame, resulted in him gaining the residency in 1982. Developing his creative experiences behind the recording studio’s control board only enhanced his style and magic. Artists like Mtume (Tonys’ first gold record ‘Juicy Fruit’), Chaka Khan, Karen White, Regina Belle, Donna Summer, Jungle Brothers, Queen Latifah, and The Cover Girls were all governed by the Humphries handycraft. The term ‘Jersey Sound’ had been coined to describe Tony’s style by the UK music press and he was one of the most in demand music men on the planet. To this day he’s played at over 300 different venues around the world, including a famed residency at the Ministry of Sound in the early 90’s, produced over 200 studio remixes and continues to flourish behind the decks. Turnmills salutes you and we’re delighted to have you back at Garage City for this fond farewell.

Bobby & Steve will by joining Tony in the main room alongside Garage City fave Paul ‘Trouble’ Anderson - who interestingly, was the first big name DJ to have ever played at Turnmills over 20 years ago (for a Kiss FM event when they were a pirate show). The soulful selection continues in T2 next door, where a host of residents past and present complete this unforgettable night of house. Look out for sets from Chrissy T, Neil Pierce, Craig Bartlett, Funkie P, Clemy Reily, plus Dave Lynam & Hamish dunn from Soulogic, whilst upstairs in the VIP Room, Chris Williams, Martin Mitchell and Paul Morrisey will be dropping Disco & Paradise Garage Classics.

The final word is left to Bobby & Steve...
“We would also like to thank Turnmills especially Danny Newman for believing in the sound and for holding some of the best Garage City Classic Events over the last 2 years and also thanks to all the DJ's & Artistes including David Morales, Frankie Knuckles, Todd Terry, Kenny Dope and all our residents.” Big Love and Bless – Bobby & Steve
