This will be your second appearance at Twist this year, can you tell us what the Twist crowd can expect from you?

My promo mix pretty much somes up what i'll be playing - tough, energetic, no nonsense hard house. I have a couple of new projects that will be in my box of tools for the night so expect some fresh new stuff from me. I had an amazing time last time round at Twist the crowd are awesome and made me really welcome, hard house purists!!

Are you excited about the line up for the Twist bank Holiday event?

I can’t wait for it, the line up is Huge! I’m especially excited to see Karim play and the Twist boys Nardi, Batten & Basquil were awesome when I was last at Twist. I’m looking forward to seeing Lucy play too she never fails to impress.

Will you be heading out on the Sunday night before your set or will you be getting a good nights sleep for the twist all-dayer?

I’m hoping to get to Frantic beforehand but will be heading up a bit later on as have a nice lengthy drive up from York. Going to need plenty of rest for the all dayer and then its Party Time!!

When did you get into hard house?

2001, I started out as a Crasher Kid going regularly to The Republic in Sheffield but it was the wild Insomniacz / Howard after parties that quickly converted me into Hard House seeing the likes of the late RR Fierce & a fresh faced Paul Glazby soon had me itching for my first set of decks. I haven’t looked back since.

Photobucket

Are you into other styles of music?

I’ve always loved Techno and I run a Techno label - Distorted Audio Records. I plan on producing more Techno on the side and I’m always looking for material to add to the label too. I like a bit of everything really from Drum & Bass to Tech House to Electro. It’s always been about Hard House for me though and always will nothing beats it !!

Photobucket

What do you think has been your biggest achievement in your career so far?

Would have to be presenting Toolkit 9 for Toolbox was defiantly a proud moment for me.
Who have been your biggest influence over the years?
Paul Glazby was the main catalyst for me to starting to dj & then go on to produce, also RR Fierce, Karim, Nik Denton & Paul Maddox have all been huge influences for me too
.

How would you describe your style?

No Nonsense Hard House is the best way to describe what I play & produce. I like a bit of variation here & there but never stray too far from hard & energetic.

Where can we find you playing at the moment?

It’s a busy time on the dj'ing front, I’m monthly resident at Stonk in my home town of York which is doing really well and has some wicked names lined up to come and play, Im making my Ireland debut this month too at Meltdown which im really looking forward too and rounding off August at Twist’s Big Bank Holiday Party which im very excited about.

What have been your favourite tracks this year?

There have been so many wicked tracks this year, the first one that springs to mind is Ross Homsons – Ferkin Merkin it always goes off on the dance floor as does Nik Dentons – Freak Right Out. Doof and Ellis – Set It Off was another top track this year and the recently released Jody 6 – Compensate is another stand out track for me as is Jake Martins – Get Twisted. The list could go on.

What’s new on the Production front?

I’ve not left my studio for weeks now which has been wicked, recently collabed with Ross Homson which was fun, had a recent release on Toolbox Choons with Badonde and another one by me (The Badness) due out in September on there also have some tracks awaiting release for Toolbox. My Toolkit 9 has just hit TID and all tracks are available digitally now & have a special remix in the pipeline for Rodi Styles Kung Fu Wax so its all go.

Have you got any favourite VST or production tricks you like to use?

I’ve been using Nexus II a lot recently, would have to say that’s my favourite VST at present also Rob Papen’s Blue, Predator and Albino are wicked too. Tricks wise I enjoy using VST FX's such as Gross Beat, Glitch and Effectrix on my vocals really handy tools for adding something a bit different and quirky.

Who’s doing it for you in Hard House at the moment?

There’s a lot of talent around in Hard House at the moment which is keeping things fresh & healthy for the scene. I really rate Manik, Jody 6, James Nardi, Ben Stevens, Rodi Style, Ross Homson, Nik Denton, Kris O'Rourke & Fellow York DJ Random But Raw are all cutting the mustard for me at present.

Do you use an engineer for writing your tracks or produce them yourself?

I have my own studio at home so I write all my own tracks. Nothing beats sitting down and creating something yourself.
Who would you like you work with in the future?
That’s a tough question as there’s so many dj's doing it for me. I'd love to collab with Ben Stevens also Manik & Jody 6 would be interesting then there’s the obvious ones...Glazby, Maddox, Farley & Nardi etc. It would be cool to hook back up with Rodi Style again too. We will see what happens in the future!

What gives you the biggest satisfaction DJ'ing or Producing?

Another toughy! Its all about producing tracks and playing them out and seeing people appreciating your music in a club but if I had to choose one or the other i'd have to go with DJ'ing. I love the buzz and adrenaline rush of playing to a packed out dance floor.

Thanks for taking the time to do this interview Wil & roll on Twist. :)
