Shivoo’s birthday celebrations take a further twist and turn with a party at their new home in Rapture, Loughborough. Four years of arcane tomfoolery has defined Shivoo, hop-footing over the midlands through a variety of much loved venues with a well heeled music policy that is as fun loving as the clubbers that populate its dance floors. This version of their birthday reflects that genre hopping genius, with Switch headlining a special bash.
Dave ‘Switch’ Taylor has thrown a spanner into the well oiled works of house music. The figurehead for the ‘fidget’ house genre, Taylor has been at the forefront of house music regaining its oeuvre. As the twentieth century crumbled into a dominance of dull progressive house and predictable trance, house music was on the scrap heap, before Taylor brought the groove back to the forefront and injected some fun, and a wide variety of musical influences into the bargain. Crunking it out with Baille Funk, pulling hooks off mad eastern music influenced instrumentals, fusing the beats with erratic tribal chants or splicing the bombast of hip-hop square into the grooves, Taylor has given house music a fresh identity.
As a performer he continues this intensity. His Ableton set up blurs the boundaries between live music and DJ performances, constantly allowing for fresh and unique takes on tunes to filter through his off the fly edits and remixes. Powering his vision of house music from his laptop, he remains an iconic figure for the depth of musical variety eschewed from musical software. Shivoo has been his playground in the past, creating havoc on his last visit, and this looks sure to continue his mythical status in the midlands. And over in the other room it’s equally as rambunctious. Robochop, Jonna and Jay-L all collide together to blow out a furious concoction of bolshy beats. Hip-Hop, House, Breaks, Electro and even shards of glittering pop will all be flying in and out of the mix, a feel-good selection of dance floor detonators tailor made to bring in the celebrations.
