This article is about UNITY / ILLICIT - AIRSHOW THURSDAY @ Bluenotes 2 in Lowestoft (UK), Thu 26 Jul 2007
Hello Sir and how are you?
Im very good thank you :)
So what's it like being in your early 20's and being recognised as one of the hottest talents in hardcore?
Ha-ha, I wouldn't consider myself anywhere near being one of the hottest talents in the scene, I just get on with doing what I love the most and get a super fresh buzz of the people who do appreciate what I do :)
Its nas!
Who were your influences and when did you starting getting into hardcore?
Michael Jackson and Peter Gabriel always made me rush growing up. I randomly got into hardcore one day when I found a tape in my brothers room, you know the usual story:
"I tripped over a tape, it was hardcore, I liked it" "I fell over and landed on a hardcore tape, it was fun" "When I delivered the pizza, the guy was out of money, he gave me a hardcore tape, I thought it was shit, and I was out of pocket"
How did you first hook up with DJ Dougal?
I was out fishing one day; it was a lovely super fab glorious summer afternoon. SUDDENLY! I felt the most intense pulling on the other end of the fishing rod, it took all the strength of me and my 3 fellow pirates to reel this one in.
It was DJ Dougal! Dougal was on the other end of my 'hook', I 'hooked up' with DJ Dougal since then and now im 'hooked' on Dougal, we 'hook' up everyday trying to come up with new and exciting 'hooks' and the rest, as they say, is history :)
Well not really cos we're still working now, and we're hooked on Subway.
You have dozens of releases already, which one would you recommend to introduce someone to the work of Gammer?
Bust! because it has a snare and a donk, people love donks.
Got to ask... Where did the whole muffin obsession come from? :-)
I can answer this :) go to www.djgammer.co.uk and download the mix, at the start I have prepared an introduction explaining where the whole 'muffin' thing came from.
And now you have your own label - Muffin Music - how's it all going?
Its doing quite well, the promos sold out within a week and the initial sales have been really good, which I'm super pleased about as the vinyl market is struggling these days.
Right now im preparing the next batch of releases, if all goes well then we should see some exciting and different ideas in the not too distant future :)
....2012
This will be your third time in Lowestoft, what do you like or indeed dislike about the town?
I love the club and the atmosphere down there, the last two times I played there I really enjoyed myself ...
There's nothing I really dislike about the town, everything seems nas! although I don't like Vibes telling everyone that there's an after party back at my caravan!!
Do you have an MC that you particularly work well with?
Whizzkid, hands down, he makes me rush harder than injecting Tequila into my eye sockets.
He is lovely as well :) Power friend!
Aside from hardcore, are there any other music genres that get you going?
Hard Dance is really really really doing it for me at the moment; I've started getting around the new breaks scene as well.
Also, Rihanna feat. Jay Z - Umbrella makes me powersmack myself into a rushhaven full of jam.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years time?
10 years older than I am now.
Thanks for talking to Mr Happy & Mr Genocide - Mr Gammer! ...Hope you enjoyed the soup and Fish ON!
Thank you Sir :)
