UNITY - FOUR YEARS IN THE MAKING

Back in 2003, three twenty-something’s decided that the local scene needed a little something more. Benjamin Ayers, Chris Sterry and Daniel Fitchett (RIP) began to plan a night of the music that they all held close to their hearts - Oldskool.

They arranged a night at the venue where two of the lads worked - Bluenotes in Lowestoft. The date of the first event... May 24th... The legend began.

The very first Unity line-up saw Alex Marvelli, Ian Carman, Fitch, Moidy and Mr Happy & Mr Genocide show a packed venue what dance music should represent...

Happiness, Darkness, Energy, Depth and of course, UNITY.

Following on from the buzz of the first Unity event, two more events took place during 2003. The first was in July with the former Prodigy warm-up DJ - Richie headlining. The second event was on the 20th of September and included a live PA from Dance Paradise' Brain Salad Surgery.

2004 and 2005 saw the Unity crew face a few up's and down's.

In February 2004 There was very sad news. Daniel Fitchett (Fitch) had passed away. This was and still is totally devastating. Daniel was a top bloke with many talents and is truly missed. RIP mate.

Also during these couple of years an event was booked at a Norwich venue which was closed down causing the Unity promoters to lose alot of time, money and patience!. The crew however, recovered from this to book two successful nights at Spencers on Prince Of Wales Road. DJ's over the nights included Swan-e, former Formation Records artist - DJ Promo and Norwich's very own legend Vinyl Vera.

Swan-e also played for Unity at Bluenotes during this time.

2006 - Bluenotes. The crew took a break until August before bringing the oldskool vibe back to Lowestoft. A great night saw DJ Pilgrim headline.

12th October 2006 was the first date for the hat-trick of Unity Vs Illicit nights.
These events brought the ravers the best of oldskool alongside the new. Darren Styles and MC Storm proved the highlight of the night with an awesome final set.

The next two Unity Vs Illicit nights proved to live up to the hype, with DJ's including Gammer and Breeze performing at their best. Thanks to No Sweat and all the Illicit crew for helping to bring new and old together!

2007 began with Unity trying something new - The Jungle Sessions.

A new concept being launched in January - a notoriously quiet month at Bluenotes? Were we mad?!?

This one proved not to be so quiet... This proved to be a success and full of real oldskool atmosphere!

2007 also saw the introduction of Unity's newest resident MC - Lyrical Groover. Alongside Me$$y-D, Lyrical provided the crowd with some original lyrics and entertained whenever he got hold of the mic.

The second event of the year saw two legends appear at Bluenotes for the first time. DJ Foodjunky proved to be a real aural delight alongside the unique sound of MC Mad P providing the rhymes in his own unique way.

... And so we come to now. Unity is looking as healthy as it has ever been. Alot of interest has been shown nation-wide. Alot of events and collaborations are planned. And if you hadn't noticed..

IT'S OUR BIRTHDAY!!
