This article is about UNITY - 4TH BIRTHDAY WEEKENDER - OLDSKOOL HARDCORE @ Bluenotes 2 in Lowestoft (UK), Sat 26 May 2007
First of all thank you for taking time to talk to us Mr Ramos!
Let's get on with the questions... When did you start DJing and when was your very first gig?
I started Djing in the Top Rank in Southampton when i was 12 years old at an under 16's night every Monday playing early Rap, Electro, House and Hip hop.
What got you into Producing hardcore?
When in the early nineties rave music started to go a bit to dark, so myself, Supreme, Dougal,Sy, Vibes, Slipmatt and a few others started to make more happier style tunes!
Do you have a tune you play, that you know will drive the crowd into a frenzy?
It depends where I play, What sort of sound system there is and the people in the venue. There is one tune I always play in my old skool sets. It is a tune with the mask samples going through it with the jump up drum & bass breakdown in it, I think it is called Incognito?
How did you meet Supreme and Sunset Regime?
Well Mr Supreme has been my best mate for 20 odd years now we met through other mates and stuff when we used to hang around when we was nippers. Mr Sunset I met through other freinds when I was looking to get into the studio to make tunes.
Do you have any influences that you draw upon?
I get influences from everyone around me who has something to offer and who are positive in what they do! I like to take ideas on board from anyone who has an opinion as I think everyone has there own perspective on things try them out myself and then try and modify them a bit!
Who had the idea for the classic record covers on tunes such as Life Force Generator?
I think we all did we all love a good laugh and a joke so we thought why not? My favorite by the way has to be the Young Guns E.P. Have you seen Hixxy in that he looks so young and fresh, so after that picture was taken we all decided to break him in and make him what he is today, wahay!
What future plans are there for DJ Ramos?
Well I have just finished building my own Studio which cost me over £18,000, it has everything that a dance recording studio needs with a proper vocal booth as well, so I am teaching myself to use it properly every day and bring out my own tunes. RSR recordings will be starting up again with a proper web site and that should be up and running in the next couple of months. Also in about 6 months time I will be hiring out myself and my studio for up and coming artists to come and make tunes!
(Interview by Mr Happy & Mr Genocide - Thanks again Paul!)
