Taking the roof off the Main room for Filth this Friday at AREA51 in Manchester will be the Hoxton Whores who continue to go from strength to strength. They have created many monster club anthems worldwide (Friday saturday love, Fusion, Sunrise, Sunshine of my love, You're in my hut now, Lost in Ibiza, Promised Land, Bomb the Terrace, Slave, Been a long time, Boys and girls, Smoothe, Shiny disco balls to list a few), alongside numerous major remixes - the likes of Faithless, Danny Howells, Infernal, Njoi, Moloko, Judy Cheeks & Todd Terry - and for labels such as Sony, Appollo, Positiva, Data, Manifesto, Nebula & Azuli!!!! Behind the decks expect a unique ‘Hoxton Whore’ performance with their signature blend of dirt-laced funky pumping electro and vocal uplifting house, combined with tones of tribal, dirty disco and large progressive beats mixed in.

We caught up with the Hoxton Whore ahead of the event this Friday............

How did you two meet up?

We met working for another record company about fifteen years ago.

Who wears the trousers in your relationship?

Me, Kevin likes to wear dresses (he told me that when he thought the plane was going to crash)

Does each of you have a bad habit or personality trait that the other can’t stand?

I have a bad habit of picking my nose, but Kevin’s bad habit is eating my bogies

Have you ever been in a whore house?

I was born in one

How much does a quickie cost with a whore in Hoxton?

Latest was 25 pence and a swig of whiskey

You made your name doing reworks of well-known hits of years gone by. We’re all of your samples cleared or may have a few cheeky ones snuck through?

A few we had the go ahead, but out of 378 tracks only one artist had the hump.

What’s your opinion of the digi-DJ revolution and the demise of vinyl?

I still only play vinyl at the moment I still buy 30 records a week. The digital dj is slowly killing the music industry in my opinion. Kev plays CDs, but I can’t get my head around them. If you were an art collector would you download the Mona Lisa and print it out and say ‘here, you have a copy’, well that’s the same for music in my eyes.

Every weekend you’re off playing somewhere and still you’ve put out over 150 records. How do you find the time?

We are still in the studio Monday to Friday. It’s a full-time job.

I understand you’re working on a new album. How’s work coming along with that and when can we expect to see it in the shops?

We have about three albums lined up. Volume 1 will hopefully be out this summer

Which of your releases has been the most successful and how many units did it shift?

Has to be sunshine of my love – with us Vs Cream. We had sold 10,000 promos and then signed it to Universal, who fucked it up by releasing a summer tune two weeks before Christmas. That record was a hit!

If Hoxton Whores were a piece of furniture, which would it be?

A bed

Looking at your diary you have gig’s all over the shop – Africa, Ibiza, Australia, China etc. You obviously do a lot of flying then. Which airline has the fittest stewardesses?

Emirates – pretty fit girls on there
