FUNKADEMIA MANCUNIA: ONE CENTRAL STREET UNDER A GROOVE What was to have been a one off Mancunian party at the legendary Boardwalk nightclub 12 years ago has grown into one of the longest running and best known clubnights in the UK. Moving on from the Boardwalk Funkademia has spent the last 12 years at some of Manchester’s most vibrant clubs including the Attic, Subspace and Zumeba where we have consistently enjoyed lock out gigs every Saturday night. With a successful combination of a hard working and passionate Funkademia team, a uniquely talented DJ squad and an incredibly loyal following of over 15,000 members we are very proud to announce the next chapter of the Funkademia story. As from Saturday 3rd February Funkademia will hold residency at what we genuinely consider to be the best nightclub space left in town – One Central Street. We believe that One Central Street is one of the few proper nightclubs left in town and is a venue that has real character & soul. In preparation for the arrival of the funk the venue is benefiting from a sharp makeover to ensure it remains one of the coolest venues in the City. Original Funkademia founder & promoter \ DJ Dave Payne: “We were attracted to One Central Street because of the quality of the space and because they have built a great reputation amongst Manchester clubbing fraternity. Another big positive is that the venue is led by Ross Mackenzie & ex Dry & Hacienda manager Leroy Richardson both of whom have been massive influences in the Mancunian clubbing world. We feel that we are putting together tow independent Manchester institutions to create a really exciting Saturday night clubbing experience.” One Central Street owner Ross Mackenzie: “We couldn’t resist the chance to bring in one of Manchester’s longest running & most loved clubnights in Funkademia. The musical formula and crowd sits perfectly with One Central Street and we are sure it’s something all our people are going to love.” We continue our adventures in club land with our tried & tested soundtrack of soul-funk, original disco and R&B classics and as ever we’re supported by our excellent resident DJ’s who’ve all been with us since the off: Fritz Great Lakes, Jon Busstop, Jason Vereker, Myk Nolan, Trafford Lovething & the Good for the Soul DJ's. To add a little twist to the tale this year we will be putting on some very special events showcasing the best DJ’s & PA’s from around the world and we have some very special high profile guests lined up that will surprise the Funkademia faithful.
