Adam M - BISH BASH BOSH!

This article is about COALITION @ STUDIO 100 in Manchester (UK), Fri 13 Jun 2008

It would be fair to say that Adam M is a man with one thing on his mind right now - HARD HOUSE! With one of the UK’s fasted growing and popular club nights in the palm of his hands, a label that has pulled on the heart strings of every Hard House jock going and a number of productions that have been blasted on every sound system worthy of a play, Mr Hi-Oktane seems to be fighting to the top of his game quicker than a blink of an eye!

So Adam, let’s not beat around the bush! What’s the secret to becoming one of the most respected names the industry has to offer right now, in what seems to be almost overnight?!

It all started kicking off when I moved to Leeds really. I noticed that the north of England had a real shortage of Hard House nights, I was a bit surprised really because I spent most of my clubbing days up in Leeds or Sheffield for Sundissential North & Insomniacz. So I came up with the idea of starting Hi Oktane and took the big gamble that the hard house crowd would still be there. The gamble has payed off as you can see and the night is becoming bigger and better with every event.

I already had my record label behind me (Oktane records) that is a big help these days because it gives you a solid platform to work from and really promote yourself. Having this and the night behind me has pushed my profile thru the roof and my dream of playing at some of the countries biggest clubs is just starting to become reality.

You’re a DJ, a producer, a label owner and a promoter! Do you favor any role over another or love everything about your work equally?

It’s got to be the DJ’ing that really makes me happy, it’s been my hobby and dream for years and I cant think of anything else I would rather do. The promoting side is fairly new to me and is very hard work but I do like a good party and that’s the main reason I came up with Hi Oktane.

On the 13th of June you’ll be taking your expertise to the launch of Coalition in Manchester. Having Red Management and Toolbox choose you to play at the launch must be pretty rewarding?

Was totally shocked tbf. To finally get the chance to play along side people i've watched and respected for years is obviously a really good feeling.

You certainly seem to be on the money with Hi-Oktane, that’s for sure! Can you let the guys at Coalition into any secrets of how to run such a successful event?

I can tell you but then I would have to kill you! Haha

I think if you’ve got your head screwed on and if you pick the right line ups then your on to a winner.

Since Sin:ergy back in the day, and with the exception of Goodgreef, Manchester has really struggled to find a committed, solid, regular Hard House night. Do you think Coalition could be the brand to change all of this?

I hope so, with lines ups like you have got for your launch night I don’t see why not.

At Coalition you’ll be playing alongside Glazby, Karim and Denton. What do you think is primarily going to be different about your set to the others on the line up?

I’ll be wearing a dress to start with, and then I’ll be doing some magic tricks half way thru my set.

No seriously it will probably be my own tracks that separate me from the big guys, i've been in the studio doing some new bits recently and i've also signed quite a few really good tracks to Oktane records so I’ll be giving them a bash on the night.

We hear you have been in the studio recently knocking up some new Adam M treats! Are there any new bootlegs lined up for your set at Coalition, seeing as you’re known for pulling a few surprises out of the bag in terms of remaking classics for the modern day dance floor?

I’ve just recently had 1 of my new tracks signed to the mighty Flashpoint records! Its called A-Class and i’ve used the classic ‘My Product is 51 times stronger’ sample from the movie 51st state. I know its been done before but really wanted to do my own take on it and beef it up a bit. I think it works really well.

I’ll probably be playing my 2 trade mark bootlegs on the night as well ‘Diddy – give me love’ & ‘TDV – are you all ready’ they normally go down a treat!!

Is there anything else you have coming up out of the studio that would be criminal not to mention here?

Yeah, quite a few things in the pipeline. I’m in the studio next week to do a remix of Rodi Styles – Pistol Packing that will be for his label ‘Kung Fu Wax’. Looking forward to that because I really like the original. Will be interesting to see what I can come up with.

I’m also in the studio to do my 1st collab with Marc Johnson at the end of the month, then I’m in with Karl Davis in July then I’m in to do a collab with Ilogik after that, looking forward to them all as its really interesting to work with different people, you never know what you might come up with.

Coalition’s launch PR quite clearly plays on the quote: THE FORCE UNLEASHED!
Tell us a little about what gets Adam M to unleash his force on the dance floor. What crowd/set up really gets you going?

I love the crowd we get in Leeds, Northerners really know how to party. It’s nice when a crowd really interacts with you, and knows the music they are listening to. And as long as Studio 100 has got a decent sound system we cant go wrong!

You recently played your debut at Sundissential in Leeds. How different is it preparing to play for other nights like Sundissential and Coalition to when you are playing your own night?

Sundissential was a bit different because you can’t just simply go on and nail it out like I do at Hi Oktane, Totally different crowd. I still managed to squeeze a few cheeky NRG tracks into my set haha.

I will play it by ear with Coalition, take a bit of every thing with me and see what the crowd is feeling on the night.

And finally, for all those who are going to be at Coalition next week, sum up in three words what they should expect from Adam M on the night…

BISH BASH BOSH!!!

LOL. Thanks Adam, we’ll see you at Coalition!!
