Music : Techno
Justice [ DJ set ] It was back in 2003 that Xavier and Gaspard aka Justice, picked up Simian's track "Never Be Alone". The pair remixed the tune and entered it into a competition on a Parisian college radio station. Busy P, fed up with big name DJ's spinning tired music, caught hold of the track and immediately fell in love with it. This punchy, poppy, electro record fitted perfectly into the ethos of what he was trying to achieve with Ed Banger. It was fun, it was colourful and it made a room full of people go nuts at the very sound of its opening bars. Such was the impact of the Justice remix on Busy P that he signed Justice to the label and released the track almost right away. It became a hit in the more discerning clubs and throughout the blogging community but would have to be released a further two times before it reached the commercial highs that we saw in 2006. Justice aren't just about one record though. Like many in the Ed Banger stable they grew up listening to rock, rap, electro and techno. These influences were apparent in the remix work that Justice did for the likes of Vicarious Bliss, N.E.R.D and Daft Punk and certainly on their first solo single, "Waters of Nazareth". Erol Alkan turned in a remix for the boys and the track was championed by the likes of 2ManyDJ's, Tiga and Ivan Smagghe. With Xavier now describing "Never Be Alone" as "too clean", the boys set off to make their first solo album. The singles from the L.P. reflected what Justice were all about..."Phantom", a fuzzy electro stomper for all those sweat drenched 2am moments and "D.A.N.C.E", the boys off kilter tribute to the King of Pop himself. Both unmistakably Justice and both full of the reasons why we love Justice. And so to this event, where Justice, a whole heap of other French dudes, a pair of Aussies and two Scots bring the noise to The Warehouse Project. And what a noise it promises to be with a Justice DJ set that will probably manage to reference every point in dance music history. From rock to rap, techno to electro, bootleg to banger, it'll all be in there. Who said that the French were crap at music?!
