Wel Well Well Mr Robbie Styles just how popular are you? Extremely by the looks of the Turn out last night fella :-)

It was nice to see so many people turn out to celebrate the birthday of the infamous Robbie Styles. If ever Robster was worried that not many people would turn up I think last nite proved that he need not have been.

Mr Phil-Real-Good kicked off the night, as he seems to at every major do and event that we have at Qubar or Sugar. A good clean set from the ever dependable Phil ..... Funky but not fluffy. Phil picked up the set nicely in order to hand over to Hank Bannister.

Now Mr Bannister !!!! :-) Considering our very first encounter, which was when I insulted the dear Mrs Bannister on DSI, I am pleased that that has not caused any ill feeling. This was the first time that Hank had DJ'd for about a year, I believe his last set was for Soul:Fusion very early in 2006. Now I almost expcted you to bugger up a bit when I was told that lol. I am sure that there has been a little practice though just to keep your hand in. Pleasantly surprised Hank. A good bouncy set which was fresh because the tunage was not fully up to date ..... that is not however a bad thing. Many a track put a smile on my face, shut it before you say anything. Many of the tracks I had not heard for a very long time but they did not seem stale in any way. The mixing was spot on and you did seem to be enjoying the set even if it was in Qubar. My only critism, which I did say to you, was that from abut 11.30 you really did need to kick it up a gear as the set rolled on but never hit an absolute high. As you quite rightly stated you haven't kept up with tunage as you have not been dj'ing in the past year. Best you get your hand in your pocket and get some then Hank as I am sure this will not be the last that we see of you. Nice to see you bring Mrs B as well and hope to see you both down with us all again soon.

DJickeee was a little late and I was hoping that Phil would return to the decks for a while. Robbie was sure he would turn up and he, even though he said "I am not DJ'ing tonight, i'm having a night off"........ yeah bollox Robbie lol ........ He just couldn't help himself :-) On went Robbie and picked up the pace. That extra gear is where you should have been Hank and with that said I look forward to your next event.

Was nice to see Robbie on the decks though even if it was his birthday. The tunes went a little dirtier .... and we all know I like it dirty :-p

DJickeee made it at last and Robbie returned to the other side of the DJ booth with the rest of the great unwashed. Ickeee kept up the tempo for the next 2hours or so and spun some real classics. Couple of your mixes was off but that didnt really detract from the enjoyment, and nowhere near the much slated Ken Fan :-). Big Dave was chomping at the bit to get on the decks. Robbie had dissapeared for an hour and Dave had me texting him threatening that if he didnt return Dave was gonna get on the decks and spin some absolute dirty filthy electro. Mr Styles got back just in time lol

Robbie returned to the decks and stayed there until ........ almost 6am. If Eli had his own way we prob would have been there now. Nigh on faultless finish to the night and accompanied by the dolset tones of Eli Thompson. Everyone, except Eli, looked bloody shattered and the the staff, were as ever, first class.

Well with two Rammed to the Rafters weekends on the trot all I can say is 'May it continue'. A great start to 2007.

Did I miss something? Kent to London to Ibiza hmmm In the last 8 months we have promoted in some of the best clubs about!!

Variety is the spice of life. Mark n I could have a different curry every night for a year with the amount of variety we listen to and are involved with :-)


There is no need to be so serious No offence taken, coz i am not taking you seriously! Maybe I read it wrong but I don't think Mark slated you in the least! We are in contact with and promote a lot of different DJ's and all of them expect critique good or bad but always said as friendly advice and taken that way! you can't grow if you won't take advice...


How would any Dj know what the crowd want without playing what he wants?

You cant stand there and "know" what the person in front of you wants to
hear? Otherwise we would all be playing the same old shit everytime?

Thats why we have different genre nights you couldn't expect a 165 bpm tune to go down well on a funky house night no matter how much the DJ loved the tune!

The first time a Dj plays a "tune" he doesnt
know for fact it is going to rock!
He takes a chance, beliving he has got a bomb on his hands.
Trial & error?

This is true to a point but then you don't build a set around 1 new tune or play a set full of new tunes it just wouldn't work. If you have a new tune you make sure you follow it it with something you know will rock the room that way it covers it up if it does flop.

A good DJ in my humble opinion loves what he's playing but the best satisfaction is for the crowd to still be shouting for more when your set is finished. It has to be about your audience cause without them you ain't got a job....

Hmmm I can tell you now if any of our DJ's came out with that line there would be serious words... It should never matter where you are DJ'ing... a 100% is required whenever your behind the decks. We want to pack out ANY venue we are at and we want the clubbers to follow us to the next one!!

For example take our Wonderful Styles or Fabulous Frenchie or Delectable Phil or Dynamic Mr G or Room Shaking Big D or The base pumping Tom keys or Filthy AJ or brilliant DJP or stomping Dom or boombastic fraudster or wicked jammi have all played in your opinion the lowly 'bar' and each one of them in their own right has absolutely rocked the place! Even Jules would have been very happy to play in our very own front lounge.... wonder if he would a played down his set cause it wasn't as big as Sugar hmmm don't think so some how...

Talking of Bars I remember How Clean is Your House giving it FUCKING LARGE at The Meet. Bar it was, a bloody small one too lol !! but fuck me they gave it 110% and rocked the joint. That is Mandy's point ... No matter where you are you give it your all.

Hank I feel you may be a little unfair on Mandy.

Mandy is a good person, and passionate about her work, her family and her friends and is truly passionate about her music. Some of your comments riled her a little and thus provoked the response you got. The PM you sent to me was much stronger.

All she was saying was that no matter where the bar/venue is you should always be prepared to play at you absolute best. Qubar, at times, is a pukka little venue and with a big crowd, like NYE when we had 200 and last sat, you should treat it as any club.

Saturday was a good nite, the DJ's were good, the crowd was good but it was decided that it was better to keep it confined to Qubar than downstairs in the main room. However that should not stop you kicking it up a gear.

Mandy and I are not hard to please and we really enjoyed the set, however it is hard to astound us but it has been done and it has been done at Sugar. Neither of us have indicated that you are in any way NOT a good DJ. All we hope is that DJ's that we review take onboard what we say and use that for their own use.

It was a strong PM fella, which is why I invited Mandy to it as I was getting a slating and being called a liar for comments I did not make.

Mandy is capable of defending herself very well ( some of you already know that lol) She isn't twisting it Hank it may just be the way you have worded some if your replies that has caused confusion.

I'll say it again for the record ..... Sat was a banging nite the dj's were good and there was some fantastic tunes rocking the place .....

This was a full blown party and when that happens we treat Qubar as a club ..... ever been to Pulse in Chatham? It's no bigger than Qubar and it's a club ...... Interesting little venue lol
