Wicked DJ's indeed
So there goes yet another New Years Eve and all in all in turned out to be a good one. Sugar hadn't hosted a House night for 6 months so you almost expect it to be busy just for that one reason alone. Things started off very quiet but by 11.30 the venue filled out nicely and remained that way as we moved into the wee hours of the morning, not that I personally can remember a huge amount past 2am lol

NYE saw a few DJ's debut on a Guilty Heaven night. First up was young Scottie Tunes, who was not just debuting for GH but was actually playing his first set in any club evironment. What can I say but a whole heartedly well done. Very smooth and good choice of tunes made this the ideal warming set, which no-one had a bad word to say about. I am sure there is some blinding nights ahead for you Scott and you should be proud of your first public mix.

Second up was Dan-CE. Now I am sure that Dan was a little nervous on this night as his last set was not to the high standrd that he had put upon himself. Well on this night your set was nigh on perfect, apart from your minor mishap, which many didn't realise lol. Good tunes, good use of both vinyl and CD and good crowd motivation.

Sir Paul French stepped up for an earlier appearance than usual, not that that should worry anyone. If it wasn't for Paul and Robbie the DJ's wouldn't have anything to play on !!!!!, Thanks for the loan of equipment guys. Paul dirtied things up a bit, tastefully though I have to admit. I think it is always good for a young and up-coming DJ to warm for a DJ that so many people have such high respect for, which Dan did so well for Paul. Paul Never fails to please and the sound system was sounding good, which is always good for Paul's "Bassline" tracks.

In steps Robbie Styles. Get in there Styles. The venue was at this point still not hugely busy, which sometimes makes it a little difficult for motivation of the showman that is Robbie Styles. However it filled out about half way through and Robbie did what Robbie does well ..... Entertains. With Sugar NOT doing House it is difficult to get regular slots in Thanet in order to keep the DJ's busy, this is a problem that we are actively working on at the mo.

Ian "laboratoire" Garner took over for the midnight slot. Nice set E very nice. I am sure that E always plays his best when he has a good sound system to play on. He played extremely well on Boxing Day in Maidstone and continued the trend on NYE. I am a commercial Electro lover i'm afraid to say and Ian does this soooooooo very well, with the odd not so well known thumping monster thrown in for good measure.

Phil Good, who remained more or less sober, picked up from Ian and continued to trend of smooth mixing and top tuneage. Things at this stage were getting a ..... little ..... bit ...... fuzzy for me. All I know is that I reaaaaally enjoyed the set, because the frame of mind suited the atmosphere ;-) Well done Phil. With the way you play you would not not believe that your first set was only 15 months ago, a true natural talent if ever I saw one.

Matisse Fontaine ..... Quality fecking set mate. Thumping aint the word, to the point that part of the system clipped out because it couldn't handle it lol. Now I have seen you play many times but this set really impressed me. Dirty set but not tooo deep and Dark and with some quality Basslines that you just couldn't not move to. Here was a DJ that had lost himself in the set too and really looked like he was enjoying every bar, every beat of every track. Fantasic is all I can say.

Dom - Young (Stimulation) up next. As most of you know Dom is a Hard House DJ and this was his first Electro set. I know he was worried about his set, and I wasn't too sure on what to expect. Started off very well I have to say, then you dropped "Fucked UP" lol, I love the track, as do the HCIYH crew that were in and Mr French was buzzing with the vibes. I think you got away with it .... Just. Thing is with Sugar, as HCIYH know to there peril, Thanet likes Electro ...... But ..... it doesn't appreciate the finer Electro tracks. This is not to say that the set didn't go down well because it ticked most of the boxes and the mixing was tight and you really enjoyed it, even though you were stone cold sober, which is not the same of Carmen lol. I truly think in a less commercial club at 2.15am that set would have rocked a crowd significantly larger than the one we had.

Last up was Tom Keys and DJ Ferdinand. Can't bloody comment at all on this as I was not in the building, or this planet. All I was told was it was going good, but the problem was that the plug was pulled as most had left. Always the damn same for poor old Tom. The amount of times he as played at Sugar only for the plug to be pulled is unbelievable.

Many Many Many thanks to all the DJ's who played on the night everyone of you are absolute stars. Yeah we could have done with a few more people but the atmosphere was top, as ever.

Many thanks to the percussion of Mr Biff Rob and Bez. Simon you played a blinder, managed to get the percussion off to a T with Electro , nice one.

Many thanks to the door staff, Sharron, Adie, and Joel and thanks to the bar staff, who were kept busy all night.

Is there a future for House nights at Sugar. To be honest probably not which is an utter shame considering the amount of talent that has played there and have been played there first sets there. On top of all the big names and brands to have graced the decks. A shame indeed but the House contingent in Thanet is small and they all come out at the same time. There is NO OTHER venue that creates such an atmosphere though.

Many thanks to my Mandy for all her hard work on the night and I am so glad you stayed sober in order to look after me ....... ooooooooooo never again lol

HAPPY NEW YEAR to Everyone, to those who turned up and those that didn't. Wherever you were at the stoke of midnight I hope you had a good one.

No so much kind words Scot ;-) They were deserved, as you know if I thought you played pants I would have told you lol. Ibiza will be good and I would have absolutely no qualms in letting you play again ... when we get the space. Gigs are thin on the ground at the mo but things will pick up soon.
