yeah both control software on the laptop

they are special vinyl records pressed with a digital timecode that are played on normal turntables. The timecode signal is interpreted by a computer, connected to the turntables through an interface called the ScratchAmp. The signal represents where the stylus is on the record, in which direction it is traveling, and at what speed. This information is interpreted by the computer and used to play back a digital audio file which has been 'mapped' to the turntable.

In practical terms, this means that any audio file can be manipulated as though it were pressed on vinyl. This has a great many advantages for DJs, not least that a laptop computer can often hold tens of thousands of audio files, whilst a record box has a decidedly smaller capacity and is much heavier.

ha ha did you think they had a mix cd on and were pretending lol

a lot of djs are mixing this way , especially the older djs like the saints who grew up using vinyl and used it in and around the 90's when they were at there peak , its good to see them back. hopefully with there being a trend for oldskol remixes we might see some other faces from the past

the saints on TOTP 1991

its good seeing djs hard at work , a lot nowadays just jump up and down and punch the air to the crowd and put no effort in the music. crowd interaction is good but some take it to far lol

Yeah true but at the same time I hate seeing some DJs that are not even there, not talking about Saints they were cool, but some DJs sometimes make you feel like you might aswell sit at home and listen to the set and wouldn't have made any difference, as they dont even look for the reactions of the crowd!

as more and more djs are now incorporating laptops and software the dj is slowly evolving into a musician , with remixes of tracks done on the fly and even new tracks being made live crowd reaction is going to go out of the window as the dj will be to busy making sounds.

But thats not a good thing, I have seen the crowd died just becase the dj was to busy to appriciate them, and thats seriously true, PVD was playing here at empire! and there were people who came from distance to see him and they were really loving the guy!
at first they were like this,

But as they got nothing back in return they kinda walked off! and said dont belive came all this way to just listen to his set!

Its good to be able to find the balance in between!

you need to have a happy medium as a dj , dont play up to the crowd too much and forget about the music and do not get to wrapped up in the music.

it wasnt all about the djs though , free partys and raves where held in the late 80's and 90's with nobody giving a fuck about the dj and just going for the music, the superstar dj is a new thing. some people put the dj's before the music and some dj's think they are bigger than the music.
