Exclusive Interview with Jon O'Bir ahead of his set at Eliminate

Eliminate: Hi Jon, how are you?

Jon: I'm very well thanks, sitting in my hotel room in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam doing this and other interviews, before I head back home to the UK later today

Eliminate: Tell us a bit about your new album 'From Within'!

JOb:I think many people will be surprised about this artist album from me. Ive only had a couple of solo productions released and a handful of remixes before this. The album contains 14 tracks, 13 of them brand new and unreleased! The style is what Im known for, quality, feel good trance music, with a couple of experimental tracks thrown in, but even they are full of melody and feeling. I built the album very much like how I build my DJ sets, so fans of my DJ sets will hopefully love the sound of this album!

Eliminate:Who were your main influences as you were growing up ?

JOb:Paul van Dyk has been a major influence and itÕs amazing to be working alongside him on various projects at the moment! The list of influences is pretty big, all the top trance guys such as Armin, Tiesto, Ferry, Above & Beyond have inspired me and itÕs great to work alongside these guys when I get the chance. IÕve also been influenced by other musical genres, I was into the classical sound when younger and every now and again I like to put some on and see if any inspiration comes from it!

Eliminate: What other Producers/Dj's out there are you really liking at the moment?

JOb:Activa has been my favorite producer for a good while now! It's always a pleasure to work alongside him in the studio and each new track he brings out just keeps getting better. I like the sound of his DJ sets as well, plenty of energy involved, he's finally getting the recognition he deserves over these past months.

Eliminate:What has been your favourite track of 2008?

JOb:There were a bunch of stunning tracks during 2008, Activa - Remember is one of them that still rocks when I play it!

Eliminate: Where have you been and whats been going on in the world of Jon O'Bir over the last 12 months?

JOb:2008 has been my best year so far without doubt, with the signing of 'From Within' to Vandit being the huge highlight. Also there were a bunch of memorable gigs including my first visit to Australia for a Godskitchen tour, playing 5 dates in Australia and New Zealand, each venue packed out with trance fans. A couple of dates at Cream, Amnesia that i will always remember, they had to be my favorite gigs to date. I'll be working hard to make sure that the years ahead will be just as good as 2008 was, thats for sure.

Eliminate: You have played at venues across the world, but which was the most memorable and why?

JOb:Amnesia in Ibiza. The place is amazing, no words can describe when you are stood behind those decks in that massive DJ booth, looking from left to right the place is rammed and virtually everyone in there are dancing there hearts out having a great time, how it should be in clubs worldwide.

Eliminate: Have you any big plans ahead for the 2009?

JOb:Working hard in the studio is a must, some exciting projects lined up including a remix for John O'Callaghan and working with Ash Tomberline in the first half of 2009. I'm also working on the debut Conspiracy compilation which will be titled 'Introspection' including tracks from past - present to future. It's also great to be working with all the big club names in the UK as well as the new nights popping up, such as Digital Society, great to see these new nights keeping the scene fresh!

Eliminate: What does Jon O'Bir enjoy doing when you take time away from your busy schedule?

JOb:I enjoy keeping fit, I attend the gym 3 times a week, quite addicted to that at the moment! Also like to involved with as much playing sport as possible, football being the favorite. I also like to cook and i'm going through the books trying to sharpen up my skills, although i messed up making a poached egg the other day, so its back to the drawing board!

Eliminate: What can we expect to hear from your set? Anything special in store for us?

JOb:Expect the usual mix of uplifting trance with plenty of energy! I'll also be testing out my new EP forthcoming on Vandit, Answers. I'll use some of my sets to test out possible new Conspiracy released as well, so expect to hear some fresh material!

Eliminate: Is there any final words you would like to say for your fans out there?

JOb:A massive thanks to the support you have shown in my productions and DJ sets, it does mean the world and its great to hear the positive things you are saying! See you on a dance floor soon!
