This article is about Glade Festival @ a secret location in Newbury (UK), Fri 15 Jul 2005
The anticipation for this had been huge, after last years sell out festival went RIGHT OFF. This year they upped the ticket price and the capacity (still only at 9000!) and held it in the same "secret" location somewhere in Berkshire.
But WHAT A WEEKEND. As you all know, the weather that weekend was awesome. The people we camped with were supremely friendly and made 4 new friends from then, apparently their consumables were top quality, and as expected the music was totally out of this world.
Most tents ran from Midday to 4am, with the so called "ID Spiral Chill-out" running constantly from 4am Friday morning until 8pm on Sunday. The DJs here mainly played chillout, but then i did catch some jungle, techno and funky house at various points of the festival!
Highlights were indeed the wrong music afternoon with DJ Scotch Egg and Sh1tmatt, I even got hit by a Scotch Egg thrown by the man himself, shortly after i had launched 10 of my own. The compere threw a CD in my direction too, which i claimed . Some crazy mosh-pit action during the gabba sets by a bunch of hippies, ace. Check out www.wrongmusic.com if you want to find out more about this great music.
Dreadzone in the main arena were class - fantastic reggae / breaks action (we all knew they would finish with "little britain"; absolutely classic tune). Good to see they can still perform after all these years.
Richie Hawtin, Aphex Twin, Squarepusher and Speedy J supplied us with the main tent techno and drill'n'bass beats. Sancho Panza was a small but perfectly formed arena with some great funky tunes being played.
There were 2 outdoor soundsystems, both playing PsyTrance which were always rammed. An amazing sight to see them going off at midday with a hardcore following of trancers loving it!!
Some great choices of food and drink, plus a great variety of fairtrade stalls and clubbing paraphanalia/ clothing.
Sasha was the biggest let down of the weekend, he started an hour later and i was not really feeling the tunes. Probably something to do with Speedy J playing earlier in the evening and absolutely ripping me a new bumhole. And possibly the gabba from DJ Scotch Egg, classic.
Many random conversations had around our tents at various times of the day and night, hilarious stuff. Mainly about the state of the toilets, roadkill, and the hunting habits of polar bears (dont ask)
So in general, the sound systems in all arena's were fantastic, the people we camped with were awesome, the weather was glorious, and i didnt want to come home!! Cant wait for next year!
Did i mention that i was pretty much wasted from Thursday evening until Sunday evening??!! Huzzah!!!
