I've just had an email to say that, yes, Venom has finally closed.

Apparently it will undergo a refurbishment and reopen but will no longer be called Venom.

Big ups to the Mighty V... the place where I first discovered clubbing, grubby disease-ridden women and cheap booze at the delicate age of 15!! It was also the first place that I DJ'd at and was the home to the first Thump event with Aquasky + Broadbeatz...

Massive shout to a decade of clubbers, DJs (yes, we know some of you played the same tunes week-in, week-out), Bar Staff and monkey-doormen - you shall be missed!!

Am I the only person who never really thought much of Venom? I never went there on the specific DJ nights, and I'm sure they were pretty good, but the general club nights there were, as my friend would say, whack. The only music played was chart music; no real, good dance music, just pop crap and commercial rap. And most of its attendees were drunken chavs looking for fights/people to beat up...

Fucking hell! No more venom! I have spent many years of my life in that place, worked there for years and have got soooo many funny memories! Venom definately had its bad points with the snakes heads decor, etc but I have to admit iv had many banging nights in there! OOO seriously did the place justice bringing the likes of The Tidy Boys, Andy Whitby, Lisa Pin Up (just to name a few!) but it was a shame venom already had the bad reputation. I remember when it used to be packed every thurs, fri and sat....all tho the dj's did used to play the same tunes week-in week-out!....red, red wine still haunts me to this day! lol!
I dont think it will be turned into another club tbh, i dont think it will work. There have been many rumours going around as there have been for years but only time will tell! xx

I remember 'back in the day' when everyweek used to be packed, you had to wear shoes and collar and the all-you-can drink for a tenner deals on Thursdays. Then Liquid came along and Venom just wasnt the same anymore.

I'd like to have gone to the last one..take one of those snake eye light things off the wall for memorabilia.

Why don't we hold a Lazer Quest tournament hosted by some of the best local DJs around!! Some heavy Drum & Bass tracks would be wicked to play Lazer Quest to!

Some proper trippy stuff could really space you out in all that smoke too...
