DETOX...but not as i know it!
Did i have a good night out...ohhh yes!...but sad to say it deffo the worst DETOX i been to yet! music was banging, people were great! but the Venue????? POWERHOUSE!!! oh dear...was never happy when i found out it was all being changed to this venue but told myself 'hey, its gonna be a good night no matter' which it duely was...but god sake..was a tad warm in there was it not?? at one point went outside for some fresh air and a tab just to find out i had to stand in a que for 20+mins just to get back in....suddenly was a 'one person leaves, one person gets in kinda crap' not impressed!...then later on we are being told that if we go outside we aint getting back in!! fuck sake there were times i though i was gonna pass out due to the heat/smell/sweat whatever and to simply get some fresh air would have meant home time!! i dont think so!

Powerhouse is normally bad enough with the price of drinks...but i see they put the prices up even more on pints just for our event..that was nice of them!

Now that i think of it though this is perhaps not the best time to be writing this cos its 16:55 and still not been to bed yet and my come down is kicking in quite nicely now :( so its not likely that i would have much good to say about anything right now....so will just finish by saying that so many weeks ago i had to make a choice off DETOX on 4th OR godskitchen on 5th.(due to financial reasons and the fact im getting old to do both), now ive neva been to Godskithcen (only lived here a year now)..but i thought i was playing it safe choosing DETOX as the previous ones were more or less SUPERB!....Well me thinks ive made a big mistake...cos now im just sooo pissed and jealous that im gonna miss the much acclaimed GODSKITCHEN!! wont make that mistake again i can tell ya!

P.S. anyone else think someone was flicking drink at them during the night, just to find out what it was was peoples sweat dripping down from part off the ceiling?? eeerrrggghhh!

well i totally agree last night was my 5th detox and i was so disapointed it was way to HOT i paid £23.00 for my ticket i was told i would get some of my money back but dave kept telling me to see him later by that time i just got sick and left it. and every detox i've been to i want it to last forever and i don't want to go home but last night i left at 3am couldn't belive they only had hot taps in the toilet. i sat all night on the bloody stairs cos i couldn't breath when i got in the rooms. the crowd were mint as usual and what i heard of the music it was quality just a shame really. i seen many people collapse and me and my mates were constantly being sick due to drinking warm water and being in such a closed area with no air con.

My first detox, and yeh will defo do another, but ill never go back to powerhouse again!

To answer a few comments:

DETOX had to move to the POWERHOUSE VENUE for a variety reasons : one being that tickets were going so well that to stay in the previous venue would have meant that not as many people could have attended the event

DUNC its a bit harsh to say that this was the worst one ever because for alot of people this was their best one.

There are several things that myself and static had absolutely no control over this time round

(1) drinks prices - the owner of the venue sets this, and we did ask for bar offers but drew a blank

(2) air con / water supply - we didnt find out until after the event that the venue management / owners had switched off the cold water supply. In my opinion that is totally out of order and something we will be feeding back to them cos I am pretty sure it is also illegal

(3) door exit / entry - THERE ARE NO OTHER CLUB NIGHTS in newcastle that give pass outs to the public all night long like what we did from 8pm - midnight

We were telling people that they could only get out and back in until midnight.
The incident that Dunc is going on about relates to when the owner turned up near 11ish and decided to temporarily stop any more people getting in the club due to the amount of people strewn all over the stairways causing apotetnial fire hazard. The management / doorstaff decided that until the fire hazard on the stairs was removed they could only let people back in 1 at a time. Unfortunaley this was something completely beyond our control, whihc took about half an hour to resolve. We moved the people blocking the stairs as quickly as possible but even with the best organisation in the world, moving several hundred people isnt going to be easy.
As we explained, people were told that passouts were at the discretion of the doorstaff.

you have to realise that we are running a night for several hundred people with djs going to and from the airport and with a variety of issues cropping up all night long whihc meanse that we wouldnt always have the time to stop for 5 mins and sort this refund out there and then

All people who can prove (via ticket stub number purchased fromsteel wheels) that they bought a transport ticket will get that refund. Just because the event is over does not mean that the refund wont happen.

I suggest you send me a private message so we can sort this out

If people purchased tickets from the likes of JAY, BAXTER are other sources who were selling tickets the refund money is with the people that you purchased the tickets from and you should speak to them direct.

DETOX have no control over these issues that people have raised re: heat and water sources but if people feel that strongly regarding this we wont use that venue again

apologies if people feel we in some way are responsible for this

and sorry melts but that also is all im saying..i said it was a good night and the music was class, dancin to the bitter end so i was, but i do think it was the worst one yet due to venue and i have been to 5 Detox events now so i think its a fair comment and not at all harsh...Thats all a review is, my opinion.

Boats n castles n mansions etc, stick with that kinda stuff and everyone is laughin...local nightclub!...nah!

well to be fair Detox has less that 3 weeks to sort out a new venue to stop us clubbers being disappointed with a lineup like that where else would you put it at such short notice? yeah it was very hot we left alot earlier than expected but if we want this sort of night to stay in newcastle you have to work with the negatives and plod on, making it better

I think having detox in a proper club is a good idea. I dont know off hand but it must make things a little bit easier as sound systems and bars etc are already in place. I think it would just take the right club to pull it off. But like J said. For such short notice, rather than let people down the organisers came up good as always. Cant knock them for effort and the only things that people wernt happy aboput were the ones that were out of there control. I agree the powerhouse was'nt that good but the fact DETOX shifts about in different venues, it somthing that the promoters will encounter on the odd occasion as they have never used certain locations before where as other nights that hold regular events at the same place can iron out the wrinkles as time goes by as its the same set up in the same place.

Top night :D

Tnx to the man with a plan ... (are men should I say)

im agreein with dunks on this one, havin been to a cpl of previous ones. the tunes were up to scratch as usual, but the venue was a let down (not havin a go at the organisers, they did their job, the club management was shit)

i dont think detox should be held in proper clubs lyk, as the random venue gives each one a unique, nd definately more buzzin atmosphere. sets detox aside from other events

Detox will do that from time to time but having events in locations like this does has it downfalls as people wreck the places?

the punters not respecting the venues means that myself and static are seriously thinking of wrapping the whole thing up

what people are basically saying here is they want to go to these venues in the middle of nowhere because there is zero security , or have i got that wrong?

and dunc is saying he would have rather went to gods kitchen in the arena

thats a club night in a public venue

there is no pleasing people

maybe the time is right to end detox

tbh there are a lot of the crowd really taking alend when we do these venues in the middle of nowhere , stealing decor, and items from the places we host the gigs in
we probably aint returning to places like that until people have abit of respect for their surroundings: we aint levelling this at everyone but theres a lot of people go far too wild and its compromising the reputation of the night

it was totally bad the heat was horrid!!!

The heat totally ruined my night aswell like - club owners fault not Detox's obviously.

But the best thing to do is just buy loads of water and try to enjoy your night!!!!

And there was far too many people crammed in there - but apart from that what can I say: Tunes and DJ's were wicked, atmosphere was wicked another successful Detox!!! (",)
