How mint was last night?
Excellent night out and an excellent crowd - I bought a few friends with me who don't really like trance that much but their opinion changed last night. Out of the Blue was the particular highlight for me. How was everyones night?

What?! Your memory deceives you my silver friend. Trance was all over the radio in the late 90s man. You don't remember ATB? For an Angel??! Robert Miles Children? Silence? Bullet in a Gun? 7 Days and one week? Darude? Fragma?!! Come on get real. Doesn't happen much these days like, but I don't think that's a reflection on the quality of the records, just that trends change. Maybe it's a good thing, now we can keep all the good tunes to ourselves & keep them special :)

ATB and Fragma are crap as is Bullet in the gun (IMO) and not trance classics, For an Angel didn't get played that much and neither did BBE, fair enough Darude and Children got played a fair bit as did Silence but it was the crap radio edit not the same tune at all as the Tiesto mix. Tunes didn't become memorable and classics cos Radio 1 decided to play them, they became memorable cos they were excellent pieces of music. Listen to a mix from 99-00 and compare the variety of tunes with those around on a mix today and it's clear the music was far better.

I wasn't saying they were any good, I was citing those as examples in response to this comment: "most dance tunes were never played on daytime radio even when in the days of trance being much bigger, perhaps with the exception of Cafe del Mar can't think of any others that got palyed more than the very odd occassion" There were definitely some MUCH better tunes around in that era than those, but those were the ones that "hit the big time".

Agreed. But if they were a commercial success there'll be more people who remember them today. People drop in and out of clubbing don't they. Pretty much nobody who I went out with back in the times of those tunes goes out any more, and most of the folks I meet out now would have been too young back then. If "Invisible" (one of my faves) got played today, you and me might be down the front bouncing with big grins cos we were there then are we're there now, but most people would be like "oh, this is good, is it new?"

Nah not with you there at all mate. I love modern trance personally. I've always been into mixing and reckon I prefer the stuff I do now... it's more pumping & beat driven, but still with plenty of variety. Have a listen if u like & see what u think :)

Aye I know what you mean, I suppose it's just cos I've been going out for quite a while now and my personal preference is for the older style of trance, tunes like Jose Amnesia -The Eternal and Shane-C'est Musique being 2 of my favourites but never ever seem to get played now. I'm not saying that trance isn't any good now I just think that things good be better but that's just my opinion, I was lucky enough to experience trance is what i think was it's best point but everyone has there best point at different times and always will do.

Jose Amnesia -The Eternal
Quality. Actually there were a couple of remixes of this released a couple of years back weren't there which I thought were really good, perhaps even better than the original (you may well disagree!)

I don't think I heard them, I spent some time in Australia a few years ago and sort of lost touch with the music so might have been when I was away, can't really go far wrong with the original tho. I think as well after listening to some of the sets from Trance Energy at the weekend that are really good that there are some blinding tunes around but my past few nights out have just been a bit shit so I feel a bit fucked off with the whole scene.
