NIC FANCIULLI

After a hefty tour across America’s finest cities, one of our favorite guests-Nic Fanciulli, rising star Kos, and the Global Underground crew land at Shindig this Saturday.

It’s been a long road for Nic: From being a shy, talented DJ plying his trade as resident at his local club, to becoming a global superstar, the rise and rise of Nic Fanciulli has been well documented. He has graced countless covers of the most respected dance publications whilst his name repeatedly pops up when clubbers discuss the finest DJ talent in recent years.

Nic joined the music world at 16, where he worked in the local record shop and DJ’d in the local bars, in his hometown of Maidstone, Kent. It was here that he earned his first proper break courtesy of the town’s house institution ClubClass. Aged just twenty Nic became main room resident for the night he remains fully committed to. Nic’s ClubClass residency would form the launch pad for his future success. Nic welcomed many legendary names to the night such as Deep Dish, Pete Tong, John Digweed and X-Press 2, all of whom were blown away his use of deep techy sounds, acid b-lines and dark melodic grooves. The residency also gave Nic the opportunity to play at different times of the night, allowing him to develop his own sound as well as develop a tremendous understanding of what is expected from a DJ…

As the freshest face to don the sleeve of GU’s latest compilation series “GU 001?, the matured, acclaimed and globetrotting Dj / Producer brings his multitude of sounds, combining raw, uncompromising techno and organic deeper house that have made his past extended sets unmissable..

Shindig takes a look back a some of the albums and singles that have shaped Nic’s sound and his slow and sure rise to the top of the house heap, going all the way back to tracks that could be heard as the fresh faced Club Class resident took to the Shindig decks on Melbourne Street more than 7 years ago..

4Tune 500 - Dancing In The Dark (Skylark Remix) -(2003)

After a year off working on individual projects, Fanciulli and Chatterley got back together in late 2003, Originally dubbing themselves Skylark (after a San Francisco bar where Fanciulli was inspirated by a set from Halo and Hipp-E) one the first fruits of which was a remix of 4Tune500’s ‘Dancing in the Dark’. Picking up Essential New Tune almost immediately, their reworking of tribal tech pop smash Dancin’ In The Dark echoed around the worlds clubs.. if your looking for a definite summer 2003 tune.. look no further.

Deep Dish - Flashdance (Skylark Remix) - (2004)

The track with THE guitar hook, was such a underground track that all the big name DJs in the big cities were playing it; then, little by little over the summer, the record gained huge support and started to take off in big big way. Keeping all the peaks and drops, the boys delivered a true tech house remix.

Skylark - That’s More Like It - (2004)

Excellent Acid Piano House that was one of last releases on Credence Records… Recorded in London at Skylarks Studio it found the respect of the Don DJ Pierre . The forefather and highpriest of Acid-Disco-House. Respect is due to both DJ Pierre and to Skylark; together they improved each and every detail of the composition & the remix to make it as close to perfection as possible.

Nic Fanciulli - Renaissance Presents Nic Fanciulli (2005)

One of 2005’s best mix cd’s and although having been featured on the Essential Mix a few times by now, it’s this album on Renaissance that saw Nic get his first big chance to shine on the compilation market. Both Cd’s are a very smooth journey, with some classic lazy summer house tunes that follow as grittier elements make their way into the mix..the pace and intensity starts to lift as the mix comes towards its finale, first with the quirky and tripped out sounds of the Trentemøller remix of Coincidance. The compilation was a first big statement for Nic and set the level for more to come..

Nic Fanciulli - Lucky Heather & Cat Out Of The Bag (2006)

Follow up to the ´The Squirreled EP ´; Nic “french kiss homage” Lucky Heather in particular found popular praise with all dj’s with its climbing drums and synth programming with an overtly house vibe…not to mention the tasty Dubfire remix that hit the shelves soon after.

Francois Dubois - I Try (Nic Fanciulli Remix) (2007)

Fanciulli took his mix of one of the biggest house hits of the year by Funk Da Void;s alter ego..deep and techy, harnessing the warmth of the original while only using the piano riff sparingly. This had to be one of the most popular warm up records and set finishers around.

Tiefschwarz feat. Tracey Thorn - Damage (Buick Project Remix) (2007)

Deep House and Electronica reworking Nominated for one of the most prestigious prizes in world music-A Grammy. ...Enough said.

Nic Fanciulli & James Zabiela - One + One (2007)

One+One saw two of today´s most exciting, talented and revered artists join forces as they attempt to create a piece of dance music history.

On their own, the two operated at opposite ends of the house music spectrum, with Zabiela pushing it to its techiest limits. The idea of this collaborative compilation found a balance between their vastly different approaches that they took to the road with massive success as a heavy tour where the two played back to back..shaking the scene up in a way not seen since Sasha & Digweed.

Under the One+One banner the duo has struck a deal with Ministry of Sound Recordings for a unique album. A studio mix that features bespoke productions by James and Nic including collaborations in the form of ´No Pressure´ and ´Rover´, both of which are a seamless meeting of James´s futuristic style and Nic´s acid-house vibe.

Skylark - I-Panik (2008)

The Skylark project combined Fanciulli’s dancefloor know-how with Chatterley’s penchant for pop and knack for synths and lead to the pair retooling the likes of Deep Dish, Kylie and Zoo Brazil, ’i-Panik’ was the pair’s first stab at a larger collection of original material. The fourteen-tracker ranges from deep house to techno and melodic progressive accompanied by a second disc of might remixes by the likes of Joris Voorn, Joel Mull, UNKLE and Manuel Tur.
