PFA’S & GOODGREEFS NEWEST RESIDENT JORDAN SUCKLEY
How does it feel to sign for PFA, and become a Goodgreef Resident and follow in the footsteps of Eddie Halliwell, Alex Kidd, Adam Sheridan, Barry Connell, Tylor Leigh and Shan?
- A dream come true! The first ever real clubbing event I went to was a Goodgreef event in Manchester a few years back. - I remember thinking back then that I hope I get the chance to play for Goodgreef one day, and now I am- so to be the new resident is quite a surreal feeling. - Its also inspiring to see how well the other residents have done over the years and motivates me to work hard, so fingers crossed I have lots of amazing times ahead.
Your next big Goodgreef date is at Digital on June 15th , what can the people of the north east expect from your DJ set?
- I will be playing a bit of a mixture in my set including some trance, techno, peak time monsters and whatever else I can squeeze in! - Also I will be using the Pioneer EFX1000, scratching, using loops and 3 deck mixing.
Your production seems to be going really well with your new track Flames being played on Radio 1, being featured on Eddie Halliwells Myebook mix/ in Eddies top 10 and also on John O’Callaghans Subculture radio. How important is your music production to you?
- I am really enjoy producing now, creating a sound and experimenting with things so I am focusing a lot of my time now on the studio. - Its also so much harder now to get on to the international scene unless you make your own tracks, so this is why I am putting a lot of my focus on producing now in the hope it will allow me to enjoy different parts of the world. - Its also a nice buzz when other DJ’s play/ support your tracks and also when you play your own music in a club and see people raving to it, it puts a smile on your face. ?
Who have been the main influences on your DJ style and music Production?
- My influences for using the Pioneer EFX 1000 are Rik Parkinson from Pioneer, James Zabiela and Eddie Halliwell. - For scratching and trickery I have always been influenced by Kutski, Q-Bert and the Scratch Perverts. - For my style of music and production I have always loved the likes of; Sander van Doorn, John O’Callaghan, Simon Patterson, Bryan Kearney, Paul Webster, Will Rees and a huge list of others.
Were would you like to see yourself in five years time?
- Enjoying life, playing all over the world, making lots of amazing music, in the DJ top 100, my own brand of trainers (Suckley’s Sneakers maybe? ha!)- & mainly just living the dream!
Away from the clubs and partying what do you like to do in your spare time?
- I don’t really do much else to be honest haha I live in a DJ bubble. - I try to stay focused on my goals, so I hardly watch TV or sleep in late, as i feel this is wasting valuable time which can be used to do something productive to further myself. - So I am basically on it constantly, but this needs to be done in order to achieve my goals and to get to where I want to be (You get out of DJ’ing what you put in to it).
You have played at some amazing venues already in just a short amount of time. Could you please tell us a highlight or a key moment for your Djing career?
- The last two years have been pretty mental with regards to gigs i have had, and i have played some amazing places. - One of my favourites was playing after Armin van Buuren for a Gatecrasher event in Cardiff to a few thousand crazy Welsh ravers. The club was absolutely ram packed, and everyone was enjoying the night. Then when Armin finished everyone was shouting “Armin... Armin” and I was a tad nervous after that thinking, “oh my god what if every leaves when i come on” haha but thankfully it all went very well and it was an amazing buzz to play there after the world number 1 DJ ! - Another of my favourite gigs was playing for Goodgreef @ The Warehouse project in Manchester in the main room for the closing set to a few thousand people. Amazing club and the dance floor was packed, what a night!
There are so many DJ’s around these days, how did you break in to the scene?
- Well I won DJ competition when i was about 18 and the prize was to play at Nation (Cream in Liverpool) which helped me get bookings with a few smaller events. - When i played at those events I always made sure I was networking with other people/ promoters at the event and introducing myself to get my name about. - I tried to make new contacts at every gig, so I could potentially have another booking for a different event off the back of every gig I was doing, because networking is a key factor for getting a your name about. - Also when I was at University I was playing at house parties a few times every week and constantly on my decks (Not doing so much Uni work ha) which gave me a lot of time to practice and learn how to do EFX, use 3 decks and scratch. Practice Practice Practice!
- I got my very first break when i went to see a friend play at the Syndicate in Bristol where i gave one of my demo’s in to the promoter and the resident DJ there. A few days later i received a txt saying he would like to have me play at a Gatecrasher tour, which was amazing! - He then took me on as a resident for the Syndicate in Bristol and i played the Godskitchen and Gatecrasher tours in Wales and Bristol. - From playing these high profile gigs, other events started to book me and then it just spread to playing all over.
You seem to be doing a lot of travelling in the UK, Ireland & Scotland, do you notice a difference in the club scene depending on where you play?
- Yes the crowds are always different. - At the moment I love playing in Ireland as the clubbers are all seriously up for having it large and very open minded with their music tastes which is good! - But I have had amazing gigs all over the place- i always try to enjoy myself where ever I play at.
You are making your debut at Tidy Magna (Main room), Creamfields, Inside Out in Scotland, The Mighty Lush in Ireland and Godskitchen Birmingham this summer, how does it feel to be playing such high profile events?
- Everything seems to be happening very quickly at the moment. I have only been on PFA since January and the progress I have made since the few months I have been on there has been hard to take in. - Absolutely loving all of the amazing gigs which are coming and I hope the dream continues!
Do you have any plans for Ibiza this year?
- I have a few dates in Ibiza this year for Atomik and also Goodgreef, which is great because I love it over there. Only thing I don’t like is the drinks prices though- meh!
