There's various free software packages about, but I can't remember the one I've used offhand.

Photomatix ?

... its not that expensive!

Wicked Gallery.

Fresh vegetables wouldn't be the same unless they had a dirty bacteria ridden hobo serving it. (sure that cant only be the HDR)

i haven't a clue about HDR do you just get 3 pics the same, but one with low, medium and high light and then merge them to one another?

Those 2 work for me. Moreso the first..

The others are way to heavily done IMO.

Yes or you can do it from 1 RAW file. It looks better and you don't get as much noise.

Read this HDR Guide.

Download Photomatix, it's what is recommended to use for HDR.

You could....Dl photomatix off limewire.

And if you want to do it from 3 shots and layer then do the following.

Set up on your camera: Go to menu 2 AEB and select (for canon). Slide wheel across so the green markers go out to -2 & +2. Then set your camera to continuous mode and set up shot on tripod. Make sure your mid shot is perfectley exposed as normal and fire away.

Import the 3 shots (under/mid/over exposed) onto your computer.

Open photomatix and open the 3 shots.

Menu, generate HDR.

Menu, tone mapping.

Fuck about with all the settings/strengths untill you are happy.

Save it and then take it into PS for the final edit. Do what you would do to a normal shot (levels/Cont/Sat).

If you're shooting from 1 RAW file.

Take your shot, open it in photomatix, generate HDR, fuck about with it, bring it into PS.
