CyberKitten presents Toolbox preview with Lucy Fur & Kirsty-Lee James

This article is about CYBERKITTEN presents TOOLBOX TOUR 2008 @ Fever in Northampton (UK), Fri 27 Jun 2008

Lucy Fur is dubbed the Queen of Filth by her growing legion of admirers. The banging beat mistress has worked her way up through the ranks with grit, determination and bags of style and is now the most sought after female DJ in hard house.

Lucy has hammered them out at many of Britain’s leading hotspots –Twist, Frantic, Insekt, Afters and Storm amongst many. Energetic sets with vision and balls of steel have made Miss Fur-ocious a huge hit with party-goers. A sterling long time resident for CyberKitten Lucy has recently picked up a residency at Nik Denton’s new night Coalition in Manchester.

As her recent artist signing to Toolbox confirms she also has major ambitions as a producer too. Clocking up studio sessions with Paul Maddox, Riggsy and Tom Parr have all resulted in dance floor destroying tunes. Lucy’s star status was recently cemented as she was asked to mix the Toolbox Volume 2 double CD set with none of than the almighty Justin Bourne.

2005 saw Kirsty-Lee James burst onto the hard house scene with a bang! This midlands based lady has had an amazing few years playing at gigs up and down the UK including superclubs such as Polysexual, B2T and of course for us at Cyberkitten. With her professional hard house attitude, she is able to play all aspects of dance, which has slowly started to guarantee her respect through out the scene - not to mention an army of fans who are growing by the day!

The Toolbox tour touches down at CyberKitten on Friday 27th June, ahead of the mayhem we thought we’d have a little fun to get you in the mood with some quick fire questions.

So let’s start with the introductions – we know your name but where do you hail from?

Lucy Fur: I am from the garden of England, better known as Kent. I have lived here all my life and must admit I think it is one of the nicest places in the UK.

Kirsty-Lee James: Well I’m 22 and I am a true born and bread brummy lass which I’m sure many of you already know. I live in Brum at present and don’t expect to be moving anywhere else anytime soon.

What was the first tune you bought as a dj?

Lucy: I am not sure, but I am betting it was a Nukleuz Blue release! Probably a BK Hardbeat!

KLJ: I think one of the first tunes I ever bought as a dj was Breather - Come on. When I first started mixing I was well into my bouncy hard house and all the Tidy Trax stuff so you can probably see why I would have bought it back then.

What’s been the most unusual request you’ve received when behind the decks?

Lucy: Got to be recently, I was djing in Manchester and was made to DJ with one hand for about 3 tracks whilst the other was holding a plastic toy snake! Good skills!

KLJ: (Laughs) Well I was playing a main room set for Afters at Subway City sometime last year when a girl came up to me behind the decks and asked if I had any Sean Paul and could I play it. It was hilarious and definitely the strangest request I think I have ever had, considering I was playing a Hard NRG set.

And the strangest thing you have seen in a club?

Lucy: There is no way I could pin point one incident! I get around quite a lot haha.

KLJ: The strangest thing I have ever seen in a club has got to be when I saw some girls steal a toilet seat from the ladies loos, I mean come on how many bottoms do you think have sat on that seat and they were handling it with their bare hands. URGHHHHHHHHH!

Best city for a mad weekend?

Lucy: In the UK? I really like Leeds and Manchester. Outside UK, I love Hong Kong! Dublin is also good for a laugh.

KLJ: Well... without any question of a doubt it would definitely have to be Birmingham in my eyes. It’s just one BIG party every weekend that just never stops!!!

What’s the most expensive tune you have ever bought, how much did you part with and do you still play it now?

Lucy: I have never bought a track more than £7 I don’t think. I am not one of these eBay mad buyers!

KLJ: One of the most expensive tunes I have ever bought was Sabotage Volume 2 Rock your Body which cost me £23 on vinyl. I do still quite like the tune although not my preferred style to play, but if I had to play a bounce or classics set then I would probably play it again.

Which is your favourite tune that you’ve produced, or what tune do you wish you had produced and why?

Lucy: Oh that’s a hard one. It probably is Vigilante with Tom Parr as a collaboration and Shake It Up as my own. Both still go down a treat! Track I would loved to have done is Megatron on Vicious Cirlce! Still a beastly tune!

KLJ: I have only made one tune at the moment so I cant say its my favourite just yet. If I did have to pick a tune that I wished I would have produced though it would have to be Paul Maddox - Have Faith as it is one of my all time favourites.

Djing is thirsty work! What drink gets you through?

Lucy: I am partial to a nice cold beer. Nothing better in a hot club! 1664 or Stella usually.

KLJ: Definitely an ice cold bottle of WKD Blue or Smirnoff Ice, Yummie.

What was the last film you watched?

Lucy: Harry Potter and the Order Of the Pheonix on Monday- love them all and can’t wait for the next film to come out!

KLJ: The last film I watched was Indiana Jones 4 at the cinema. It was pretty good, although a little bit far fetched and cheesy for my liking. The 80’s versions were so innocent lol, nothing was too cheesy back then.

Seriously single or deliriously attached?

Lucy: Definitely the second! It is my 1st wedding anniversary coming up next month!

Kirsty: Seriously attached, (I hope) LOL.

What was the last text you received and who was it from?

Lucy: Let me check…my mate from work asking if I wanted to go to see the Hancock premier at Leicester Square for a bit of Will Smith action!

KLJ: The last text I received was from my boyfriend telling me how much he liked his new phone and hopes that I am ok.. Nothing too exciting sorry guys!

Complete this sentence. I love hard house because….

Lucy: It is the only music I feel overwhelmingly passionate about.

KLJ: It's where it all began for me when I started clubbing and Djing and I have never looked back since. Hard House is music to my ears!

Tell us one thing about yourself we’d never ever guess?

Lucy: I can actually fly, but don’t tell anyone.

KLJ: Oooh thats a tough one because if I tell you then it would spoil the guessing. I’ll tell you one of my party tricks that I bet you could never guess though. I can put both of my legs behind my head which is rather funny to see if you haven’t seen me do it already.

Finally - what words do you live by?

Lucy: Don’t try and lick your elbow as you cannot do it.

KLJ: Well my motto is live each day like its your first and each night like its your last. Absolute beautiful words with a very true meaning!

Thanks girlies! You can catch Lucy Fur, Kirsty-Lee James, Nik Denton, Dave Owens, Tim Stokes, Tom Parr and K8-e at the CyberKitten Toolbox tour on Friday 27th June @ Fever, Northampton. And all for just £5 before 12:30am! See you there.
