Every so often something happens in the hardcore scene, as with every scene, that stands out from the norm, grabs your attention and whips up a frenzy of interest. Whether it is the arrival of the next generation of super events or the evolution of the music that is the very life blood of what we all love. It does happen, and it's happeing right now. I was lucky enough to catch up with two of the hottest fresh hardcore talents recently in the shape of DJ Himbo and MC Static. Here's what happened...

Q. So lads, you've both managed to carve yourselves a great reputation in the scene, the ravers love you right now and the partnership is a hit. But how did it first come about?

STATIC. We were introduced by DJ Delite. He wanted to do a track using my vocals and Himbo's engineering skills but it never came about for some reason. However we got talking (Himbo and Static) and decided to do a "singy" bit together. We arranged a day and from the word go it was easy. We wrote the first version of One True Destiny in a day and it then came to be remixed by the legend that is DJ FLYIN' not long after. We've worked really well together from the word go.

Q. It must be so good to know that you both have the interest and support of some of the biggest players in the industry, but it can't have been easy getting as far as you have in such a short time. How has the journey been for you as a whole? Is there any advice that you would give the up and comers out there today?

S. WORK YOUR SOCKS OFF is the best advice! It really is the only way and it is notoriously hard to make it onto any main stage in the hardcore scene. Looking back now, it's good to know that we have had the support of some top guys. But the most reassuring thing is the reason we have that support at all, and that's because we are dedicated to what we do. You have to be 100% committed. It's not been easy but then again nothing that is worth it usually is!

Himbo. We have been very lucky to have been noticed and supported by some very big acts, but also by our family, friends, and the ravers. We are very thankful to be in such a great position.
We have worked tremendously hard over the last year together, and for many years before that on our individual careers, but I think the key to what we're doing is our passion. We don't find anything we do a chore, we love the music and we genuinely love the scene.
My advice to people just starting out is to have the passion, patience, and to keep trying, Never give up. For every success that I've had personally, there has been at least 2 or setbacks. But you just have to persevere.

Q. And it's all paying off now. Static, you have just won the best breakthrough mc award at Westfest. that has to be the highest level of recognition for any mc that wants to breakthrough as a professional.. And Himbo, your tunes are being slammed at the nations largest events every weekend. What would be the high and low points for your careers so far?

S. The high point for me has got to be the award acceptance. It was immense. The fact that all those ravers voted for me because they like my style. That moment is burned into my mind and will always be there. l can't say hardcore has given me any low times yet. It's what I listen to all the time. It's always going to make me feel good, you know the score!!

H. It's a tough question. As a producer the most emotional moment of my career was hearing my "ready to fly" track being played for the 1st time at a main room event. It brought a tear to my eye as I was so proud, As a DJ, the high point has to be playing main room at HTID. There is no other feeling like it on earth! And the low points? Grrr, I've had my fair share of them, but I try not to dwell on them too much and just keep smiling.

Q. You've both had main room sets at some of the UK's largest events, you've released tracks together and your live shows are in such high demand. do we see another double act in the making?

S. I believe we are both very individual. We are not the kind of people who would like to limit ourselves to only playing sets together. Personally, I think that playing for different DJ's every week makes me better as an MC, although working with Himbo has more than equalled that progression. he is so musically minded that he teaches me without even realising it.

H. Yeah I have to agree. I think were both very much our own person, I think that we have just made a really good bond as mates and we work well together in the studio and more importantly on the dance floor.
I regularly play with other MC's, buts I must admit I enjoy our sets the most. It's a good feeling knowing you've just put on a real show for the ravers!

The New Beginnings Album is now released and you've produced this together with some input from some true legends. I'll leave it to you guys to tell us more about it...

H. It's good

S. Ha-Ha!!

H. Actually, it's really good. On a serious note....I am really happy with the album project. It's been a long time in coming, but we have been progressing so much as artists that by the time we finished one copy, we thought it just wasn't good enough. But finally we hit the nail on the head and we both felt that it's about time to get out there and start letting people know what we're all about. It's also about giving a little something back to the thousands of people who have supported us this year!

S. From my point of view as an MC and a singer, it was very hard. We spent long hours in the studio not only in the months leading up to it but also remixing the tunes that we wanted on it. It wasn't just the making of the tunes, it was the diversity that we felt we had to have. Not too much of this or too much of that. I got to say Himbo did all the computer work which is the longest and most strenuous part of the process. I tried to give more input by helping with the promotion side of things, like getting the artwork for the cover designed or getting the emails sorted by seeing who's mailing list we can pike onto to get the best coverage. Thanks overlode ;)

H. Yeah he's right...I am the talented one. Ha-ha sorry mate. I don't know what's wrong with me 2nite , I can't stop laughing.

S. You got a mirror close by or something?

H. Just to say a massive thank you to yourself (Who's Hardcore) for your support with bookings and promotions, and a massive thanks to everyone who is supporting us! Oh, and that Static has no face ;)
