NU FREQUENCY INTERVIEW

This article is about Dirty Monkeys @ Rocket in Northampton (UK), Fri 09 Dec 2005

1. Hey Shield, how are you doing?
I'm fine thanks, very busy as always

2. You've probably had your most successful year to date with Oxyd and of
course NUfrequency so what have been your highlights?
Has been an hard but great year at Oxyd. We had a very good success with Jupiter Ace 1000 Years, one of the biggest dance tunes of 2005. Then we had good success with tracks of Patrick Alavi, Sex On Monday and Elio Riso & Raffunk. NUfrequency "808 (Why oh why)", our first single signed on Little Mountain, did very well in the first part of the Year. It has been played a lot by all the top jocks, including Pete Tong, who made it Essential New Tune in his BBC Radio1 radio show. Then we did remixes for West London Deep, Sander Kleinenberg and Robbie Rivera.

3. You talent as A&R & ability to pick winning records for Oxyd records seems to know no bounds and frequently we hear Pete Tong hammering your
latest picks, Do you ever think you should have his job?
Hehe, that would be funny. I hear his show from years and i quite know his musical tastes. Sometimes he gets on straight away on the tunes, other times he is very unpredictable. Anyway the Oxyd style is very "English" oriented, and we gain a lot of support from the Uk

4. What Productions are NUfrequency currently working on?
We have just finished a new track called "Buy me", which is quite different from 808, but goes in the same direction. It's very clubby in the sounds, and quite inventive in the melodies, but with a catchy vocal hook that can make it a bit radio friendly too. We are working on a proper follow up to 808 with Jam & Spoon former singer Plavka, and on album material

5. any more Oxyd anthems we should be looking out for before Christmas?
We have signed a big track called Belivers "The World", and Chelonis R Jones delivered a great vocal mix. The support is shaping to be big and this will be one of the Oxyd anthems just before Christmas. Then Sunfreakz "Riding the wave", Psycho Radio "Call the police" and the new Flower Power single will be other Oxyd highlights for the end of the Year

6. How would you best describe the NUfrequency sound?
Our music is a mixture between an 80’s sound and new wave melodies with a touch of dream and progressive. We’ve been influenced by the music of Steely Dan, Kraftwerk, New Order to name a few; Jacques Lu Cont and Unkle recently

7. What can we expect from you musically on the night?
Will be a live act. Rhythm, melody, and colour

8. Why the name?
The name says all itself, we are trying to bring out a new frequency in the music

9. What's the most bizarre thing that has happened to you at a gig?
When i left my record bag at the airport, so had to call the police, which fortunately found it

10. Who's your favourite DJ/Producer & why?
My fave producer of the last couple of years is for sure Mylo. I loved his sound from the first Ep he released on Breastfed

11. What's your favourite thing in the world... ever?!
My family is for sure my most precious thing
