This article is about Elev-8 Christmas Carnage With Krakajax + Darftphunk (Santa / Miss Santa Theme!) @ Mustard Lounge / Imagine WineBar in Norwich (UK), Fri 23 Nov 2007
Hi Krakajax how are you doing?
We great . thanks....we all have day jobs so tired as well ! What have you been up to so far in 2007 and what have you got planned in 2008?
We have played at loads of gigs over 2007 including Ministry Of Sound, Babalou, Koko on NYE, playing along side Lisa Lashes and Anne savage, as well as hosting Alabama 3"s parties and we were asked to play with the Happy Mondays as well which was great...... 2008 we will be back at MOS in Jan and a few big ones on Feb....we are also in talks with Polish, Italian and French clubs to get our brand in Europe
Any more fantastic production in the pipe?
We will definitely be producing some great tunes for 2008 with electro being our main creative source and hopefully expanding into other genres such as Breaks and Progressive.
What got you guys into DJ who where your big influences and how did you all meet up?
We all know each other from back home (South Africa), and we all had the love for music from the first DAT tape in the 80's.......We had each played for major promoters in London but decided we would take the reigns and create our own brand (Krakajax). Wes is awesome at chopping beats and remixing, Wade is the smoothest beat mixer this side of cake baking and Teo has an extensive scratching background in hip hop and dance. Influences are James Zabiela, Dave Seaman, Inland Knights, MYNC Project, Micky Slim, Proc & Fitch, Ed Kane...the list goes on.
What's the worst thing that's ever happen to you during a DJ set?
Worst is always bad vibes in a club, moody bouncers etc etc......but the funniest thing was some bloke asking us to serve him a drink while we were DJing, and when we told him where the bar was he insisted that he was at the bar and kept throwing twenties at us !
Usual all three of you DJ back to back with scratching and effects what can we expect for Elev-8?
All i can say is that the walls better be padded, cause we gona bounce the funk from here to San Fran!
Do you know how to drive a tractor?
Yes Wes can drive a big ass tractor, (he's a farm boy!) Teo as well but its only because his uncle is a farmer.
Lately we have seen a lot of DJ's use laptops for their sets, do you think this is just plain cheating or do you think this is the next big thing?
Laptops in a set is not our cup of tea, I suppose you need to know exactly what you are doing. Its a bit impersonal for us to say the least, James Zabiela pulls it off well. Teo once asked a DJ who came on after us (he was using a laptop) and shouted out "Can I check my email bruv", he didn't see the funny side...but everyone else did.
If you have the night off who would you check out and where would you go?
The End is an awesome club with Mr c , Layo and Bushwaka on show monthly, Turnmills is a great spot as well. But we tend to play most weekends so we are confined to our schedule in terms of clubbing.
What choons are hot in your box at the moment?
All of our tracks obviously !! Tuned In Live - Micky Slim Real Life - Ed Kane Get Doh - Inrah Bones - Sam Hell
