Elev-8 Interview With Noir (Noir Music) / Denmark

Just back from the white islands of Ibiza we quickly catch up with Noir one of Denmark finest electronic music producers before his first visit to Norwich for Elev-8 birthday event on Saturday the 22nd of September.

You've been interested in music since a very young age. What made you realise you wanted to move to the other side of the decks and mixing desk?

"When you like house music DJing comes naturally – you want to play and express the music behind the decks. And when you start DJing – the productions become interesting and you wanna make that perfect club track yourself. This is pretty much how I got into DJing and producing music. I was a DJ way before I started producing music. And I started from scratch on both and I'm pretty much self taught."

What do you think has been the most significant change to electronic music since you the got in to the industry in the mid 90's..??

"The productions have become soooooo much better. People really care about the end results now and spent lots of time mastering their music. Other than that the club music has become more minimal and with less vocals than back in the days. In the 90's everybody looked for a catchy hook – these days its all down to the simple grooves and great productions."

The almost obligatory,….. Vinyl, CDs or Ableton??

"Both vinyl and CD's, but I only bring CDs these days as vinyl's are to heavy and risky (airports) to carry around."

Following the successful launch of your own label, you revisited, remixed and reissued your own 'all about house music'. What else can we expect from 'Noir Music' in the coming months??

"Well….. we're actually gonna throw out a remixes part 2 of that one as its been so successful and we've had some great producers tweaking it. Then I got a new Noir track called Super Skunk coming shortly and releases from Belocca & Soneec, James Fitch, Kid Dub with mixes from The Dolphins, Deadmau5, and myself. We also got some interesting new acts on the double up EP series and well…… I'm signing new tracks as we speak, so it all looks very good for Noir Music."

What hot tracks do you find yourself dropping in your sets at the moment?

Changing favourite tracks every week basically – but RIGHT NOW!

Deadmau5 – We Fail/Not Exactly
Dusty Kid remix of Armand Van Helden – I Want Your Soul
Patric & Timo - Xyz
Angello & Ingrosso mix of the new Hard-Fi
And off couse Noir – Super Skunk ;o)

You run the very successful V4 night in your native Denmark. What formula do you apply that means it continues to be rated best club night year on year..??

"We only do like 3-4 parties a year. We book some good names and have a very loyal and incredible party crowd. The clubs capacity is around 300 and that makes it very intimate and special. That's why it's a GREAT experience for DJs and clubbers."

You work hard and travel a lot with your DJing, so when you get some time off where do you like to clubbing??

"Hmmm I hardly do clubbing as I play every weekend – but if I have to choose it would be Space, Ibiza. That's probably the best club in the world as I see it."

Fellow producer, and remixer of 'MTV', Chris Lake has also played in Norwich. Did you get in touch with him to ask what to expect??

"No not yet, hehe. I don't really plan anything before my gigs. I watch the crowd and play differently every night. I have a certain style but not a specific track list, start and end track. I'm very spontaneous."

What can the Elev-8 regulars expect from you on the 22nd September?

"Chunky, filthy, phatt and energetic house. Lots of exclusives and some well known classics thrown in to make the crowd scream ;o). Prepare to be surprised and defiantly get a good night out.

And finally, is it really 'all about house music'?

"Hehe, I get that a lot. But yeah, if we talk music, that's where all my inspiration and love is. I like all sorts of music, but I LOVE house music."
