Following much speculation, Gatecrasher, owners of Nottingham’s once revered MEDIA Nightclub today (5th July 2007) announced the club is to close its doors forever! The pinnacle of Nottingham’s club scene for over 10 years, MEDIA is set to close to make way for a new era in clubland. GATECRASHER today confirmed a million pound make-over, refurbishment and rebrand of the Queen St Club. The club will reopen as GATECRASHER NOTTINGHAM in September with plans in place for a spectacular launch party.

GATECRASHER intend to restore the Grade Two* Listed Building with a design that highlights the extraordinary historic character of the building. In keeping with clubs already spectacular interior, Gatecrasher aim to add a new sense of glamour and excitement to the club, surpassing expectations with world-class production, luscious décor and sensational sounds to suit all tastes.

Simon Raine, Managing Director at Gatecrasher commented;

“Media Nightclub was once an important part of Nottingham's identity and attracted international attention on the dance scene through its championing of cutting-edge dance music. In its heyday the club stood at the heart of the dance scene, and fresh wave of youth culture.

The venue remains at the pinnacle of club-land in Nottingham, however club culture moves on and it is important that we recognise this. We aim to add a new excitement and energy to the club. We’ve listened to what our customers want and re-modelled the club accordingly. Comfort and service is now as important as the big sound system. The refurbishment will provide clubbers with a totally encompassing environment with all the facilities you could dream of.”

Gatecrasher plan to run club-nights throughout the week encompassing all styles of music, which will reflect the tastes and desires of Nottingham’s clubbers and their lifestyle, with an elegant slant on clubbing to suit every taste and every persuasion.

Simon Raine added:

“Gatecrasher Nottingham will focus on all genres of music. We’ve asked clubbers what they want and programmed our nights accordingly. Gatecrasher is no longer a trance club. Our music policy on a Saturday will be varied and non-specialist covering all genres of music from house to R & B, disco to party anthems.”

GATECRASHER proudly remains one of the most potent and recognisable names in world clubbing and currently owns five nightclubs throughout the UK. The Queen Street venue is the third club to be branded and developed under the GATECRASHER umbrella alongside GATECRASHER ONE* in Sheffield and GATECRASHER DISCOTHÈQUE in Leeds. All venues now play a wide selection of music styles enabling the brand to transcend its dance roots and connect with youth culture in all formats.

The company, which also owns a 3000-capacity club in Birmingham and the renowned Area nightclub in Watford, has also confirmed that it is looking at several new sites in major cities across the UK as part of a 10-club expansion plan.

The refurbishment of the club begins this week with more details to be announced soon.
