New Bands playing to a packed Rock City!
Freezing night in Nottingham warmed up by a sell-out crowd at Rock City for the NME tour!

First up were The Mystery Jets a band that looked like they may have bumped into each other while trekking in the Gobi desert. Suffering from several unique cases of 'Hair Crisis' they whipped the audience into a frenzy with some deafening harmonies and general hip swinging musicality, a good opening act that wafted the scent of potential for future success for although they have released two songs they have yet to release an album. Watch out for this quirky band and the up-beat singles "You can't fool me Dennis" and "Alas Agnes" - not sure about the lead singers choice in socks though!

We Are Scientists up next and if you haven't got their album then you should buy it (subliminal message: "buy it goddammit, buy it now!!!") - the crowd got seriously involved in moshing to these New York based American Rockers. Chris Cain (bassist and backing vocals) showed his smart side by donning a pair of science goggles on stage helping him to retain full vision despite the crowds best efforts to blind him with ale. My friend saw Chris later on in the queue for the gents obviously checking to see if anyone would recognise him - naturally she did and he courteously allowed her to take a quick pic! Check out the We Are Scientists web site , it's as cool as cool as a chemical experiment using chemicals that make stuff really really cool like er... liquid nitrogen! This band are a must see live.

Next up and probably the most anticipated were Arctic Monkeys. The dancefloor got packed and they started off with their no 1 "when the sun goes down" which got the packed house jumping like nutters. Met a few people from Sheffield who seemed to know the band personally and the crowd surfing began! Played a lot of other tracks from the Album, I reckon "i bet you look good on the dancefloor" will be their next hit.

Arctic Monkeys are next playing Rock City on 13th April - get your tickets from tomorrow 2nd Feb before they sell-out!

After a much needed beer break it was time for the headline act Maximo Park I think most people were at this gig to see the Arctic Monkeys though - best song from Maximo was "Apply some pressure" and "Limassol" and the set and lights were pretty cool and they went down well with the crowd. Top night had by all - had to wring my tee-shirt out an then headed to The Market Bar for more Super Tuesday drinking!
