How did you originally get into music as a career? Have you always been into dubstep or did you start off playing with other genres at first?

I had a bad sports injury, I used to play semi pro and for my country. So I started DJing when i could not play sports no more. I was always into Jungle nd UKG.

I used to DJ for my local old peoples home on a thursday night, playing healing and easy listening tunes. It was always a bit grimeydown there. by the time eastenders started it was full or mashers and gurners. too much cherry brandy's and tomatoe vodka's.

Where did the name Caspa come from? Is it significant for any reason?

I got it from the file 'Kids' by Larry clarke. Caspa was a crazy charcter, kinda liked him, he didnt really take things too serious....

Dubstep is still a relatively small field, for people who might not have heard much of it how would you sum it up? And which artist should they listen to to really get a feel for it?

Well Dubstep has become huge this year and still has plenty of growing room left. It has crossed over to all genres and dj's record bags. Music listeners have started to understand it. I couldnt really sum up 'dubstep' for everyone its whatver you want it too be. For me is all about the low frequencies and engery.

You play in countries all over the world, where do you find the best scene, crowd etc?

To be honest it used to be a london thing but now its a worldwide thing. The scene has expanded like i never thought it would, could. You just dont know what to expect when you land in other countries now.

Israel, new zealand, USA all have brilliant nights. If I had too choose my 2 favorite places it would be Fabric Room 1 and 'Sub Dub' in Leeds.

Musically who were your early influences as a young child?

I used to love Micheal Jackson as a Kid, who didnt really? I wanted his moonwalker outfit for my birthday, never got it though, chewing!

Other than that i was always aroubnd music. My old man is a rcord collector as are my 2 brothers. My older brother was a big hip hop head, so i was always knicking his cd's (moob deep, wu tang, ghost face) and at school i used to hear the older lot playing there jungle tape packs at lunch. so it comes from every angle.

You have also been producing records now for a few years, how do you find this differs to DJing and which do you prefer?

I love DJing athats what got me into this music and i very rarly turn down bookings. I love the weekend mad ones where were shooting up and down the motorwa playing gigs all over the country, thats what its about.

I do like producing but you have to be patient and I have not got alot of that! also i just dont really get enough time in the studio lately as im busy running the labels and DJing.

Of all the venues you’ve played in which did you enjoy enough that you’d play there for free?

Thats a hard one but I would never play anywhere for free unless it was a charity thing. There are so many good nights at the monment but alot of promoters get it backwards, have a great looking club and huge lineup but the shittest sound sytem. Thats why I love playing Fabric and Sub Dub in West Indian centre, Leeds.

What is your ultimate dubstep record?

My ultimate dubstep record would have to be: Rusko - Jahova - dont think ill ever stop playing that!

How are things going at your label? Any exciting new signings you can tell us about?

Yea things are real good, very busy but good. I dont think people releise how much time, money and effort goes into doing it. its no where as glamourous as people like to think but dont get me wrong its has its rewards too.

There are so many good artists at the moment, I think 'The Others' are really gonna blow up in 2009,There writting some killer tunes.

Im also just finishing my album, which will be the labels first. Apart from that lots of releases coming from Subscape, Unitz, GIANT, L-Wiz, Tes La Rok, Rusko.......
